My name is Stephanie McLeish from Warren, MI. I’ve been married to my husband for 11 years.  I am a mom of three boys ages 6, 4, and 1. I work part time as a manager of a fine jewelry store. I am actively involved with my boys’ school as well as a moms group at my local church. I’m a firm believer that laughter is the best medicine and try to make others laugh as often as I can.  I love the Lord and I know I’d be lost without Him!

The product I am reviewing is the Skinny Tan and Tone Kit.

I have used self tanners before so fortunately, I had an understanding of how they work. For someone who might be brand new to a self-tanning product, the instructions for Skinny Tan in my opinion wasn’t clear enough. Something that would be beneficial for this product would be a clear step-by-step set of instructions along with what to expect. The outside of the box gave step 1 and step 2,  but they were out of order (and contradictory to the “tips” outlined on the website.) When using a self tanner, one should exfoliate first to remove any excess dead skin cells, then use the self tanning product. However, the box shows step 1 use the self tanner and step 2 use the exfoliator.

Again, having used self tanning products before, I was familiar with how to use the product. I exfoliated in the shower in the evening using the “pre-tan primer.” The product had a very pleasant smell and though it was gritty as an exfoliator, the creamier base left my skin feeling soft.

Once my skin was completely dry ( I waited about an hour), I used the skinny tan applicator mitt to apply the 7-day tanner to my legs. {I chose to use the product only on my legs just in case I wasn’t happy with the results. I would be able to wear long pants the rest of the week to cover it up.} The product went on smoothly with the mitt.  As the product dried, the mitt wasn’t spreading around the product as much.  It was actually wiping it off. The cream is tinted so you can see where the product has been applied and where it might need to be rubbed in more.  I am glad that I tried this product at night before bed as opposed to first thing in the morning because even with rubbing it in, the bronze seemed very streaky. There was a pleasant smell unlike other self tanners.  The skinny tan 7-day tanner had a light sweet almost tropical smell much like a regular body lotion.

In the morning, I was able to shower and rinse off the lotion.  The instructions indicated to only use water when rinsing, but I did use a shower pouf with a small amount of shower gel. Once the product was rinsed, I noticed no streaks (even though the night before there were definite streaks on my legs!) I had a nice light glow that did not look fake or orangey at all.  I took the kids to the splash park that afternoon and felt confident showing my newly-tanned legs. The product does say that it tightens cellulite. I didn’t notice much of a difference with that. Perhaps over time there might be a difference.

The afterglow gel/lotion was not my favorite as it has a slight sticky/greasy feel to it. Though it added a nice “shine” wherever I applied it. I didn’t like how it felt on my skin and so I didn’t continue use. I used only one application which I understood should last 7 days. The tan itself did fade after the first day so the application process would have to be repeated to maintain the tan.

Overall, as a use of several types of self-tanning products, I would use this product again and I would recommend it to a friend. With improved step-by-step instructions, I know that this product would be useful and beneficial for someone looking to get a nice glow without even having to step outside!
