The Best Careers for Stay at Home Moms {Guest Post}

Guest Post By:  Emma Anderson

You have decided to be a stay at home mom, yet you want to work. It might be you want a career, or you want something that can add to the household expenses. Either way, there are a ton of opportunities to help you achieve this.

It must be said though, some are either gimmicky, or they are not serious positions and try to take advantage of mothers who are after work.

One other thing to mention is, most of the jobs for moms nor are based on being online, so a decent computer setup is advisable before you consider anything too exotic.

The gimmicky ones can fall by the wayside. Filling in surveys and clicking on links is not a career that is just something to pass the time away. What you want are real jobs, real paying jobs.

Many career choices will depend on the skills you have already learned from your previous employment, yet nothing is stopping you gaining a few more as you go along.

Here we find some of the best career choices you can make that might give you the career path you choose and the chance to work from home:

Virtual Assistant

Pretty much the same as an assistant based in a company. Scheduling meetings, making sure company schedules are balanced, creating material for sales teams or anything that can be done by a person who sits at a desk.

Online Tutor

If you are experienced in some subjects, this can be a highly rewarding career choice and does give a little more flexibility than a VA. There are many students who need extra tutoring, math’s English or any subject you can think of they are doing in school.

There are also international students who wish to learn English as a second language, yet working schedules for this can be during the night as of the time difference.

Transcriptionists

Here your task is to listen to audio clips and convert these into text, although not difficult, it requires a good ear, and a high command of the English language (grammar). There is quite a few website who seek these duties, many of which you are required to perform a test. The most significant downside to this understands the person speaking, as not all recordings are crystal clear.

Account Managers

Also classed as virtual bookkeepers. Here you would have to manage budgets, data entry, report creating and manage cash flows along with other accounting tasks. This can include many different functions that would be linked to running an account.

Content Writing

If you have decent writing skills, there are numerous opportunities. From writing blog posts, articles, website content and much more, anywhere you see writing, there are opportunities for content to be written. There are also positions where people require proofreading and editors.

Social Media Managers

If you are well versed in social media and online marketing, these positions can be quite lucrative and one of the easiest to get into as your career rather than working directly for a company. If you can create followers and drive customer traffic to a business’s product, there are lots of opportunities available. This sort of position also allows you to have more than one client at the same time.

Resume Writing Services.

Job seekers are always on the lookout for a high-quality resume and cover letter. This also has many businesses who offer professional resume writing services. You also have the opportunity, to perform this duty as something you provide in your area. It can be an excellent choice to add to one of the other positions above if you have the time available.

Most of these opportunities require very little or no startup costs as long as you have a decent computer and an internet connection. If you approach companies direct for positions, this is slightly different as if you are doing the work as a freelancer.

This route requires you to pitch yourself to the many possible clients who are seeking people to fill these roles. Rates of pay as a freelancer can be less, yet they give an element of flexibility that might suit you better.

Once you study all of the positions mentioned, you might find, you are in a position to combine duties and offer more than one service.

You will also see, this is not an extensive list and leaves out many of the more skilled options available which can include website design, graphic design or anything that requires a higher skill set.

It does not matter which one you choose. They are all there for your taking. Start off small and build up to something more challenging when you feel ready. There is no reason to put it off; there are thousands of mothers out there already doing it.
