Before I go forward in this book review and giveaway, I need to brag a little bit. The author of this amazing book is a dear childhood friend of mine, Teri Socia! She is currently raising 3 teenagers and is a rock-star mom. I am so very proud of her and excited to be doing this book review and giveaway. Read on, you don’t want to miss this!

Let me just say, WOW! I am so impressed by this book and what Teri has to offer in terms of raw experiences and advice to other parents and teens. As a mom of one teen daughter, I look forward to utilizing this book as a tool for when my other two reach the bittersweet teen years. It will certainly be quite a ride I’m sure.

Stronger

“There’s an old saying that what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. I don’t believe that is entirely true. I think that what tries to kill you makes you angry and hurt. Your strength from what tries to destroy you must come from your faith and your family, your friends and all of those people around you who truly love you and believe in you.”

Don’t Rush It

“Don’t get me wrong, children need discipline and instruction but you also can’t expect adult type of behaviors from children. This is their one chance to be a kid!”

Are You My Person? 

“If your teen is struggling to find their person or that group they are looking to fit in with, tell them not to lose heart. There is someone out there for everyone. Getting involved in groups, sports, clubs, your local church are all great ways to meet new friends.”

The Era of Instant Gratification

“So while technology is ever advancing and computers are so very smart, parents will always be smarter because we will always know what is best for our children. For mine, it will be limiting the use of these apps and keeping them in check. Allowing them.”

Keeping Your Kids in Church

“Now, as my children are growing spiritually, they are learning that they too cannot live life without Christ by their side. The principles and teachings that they are learning or have learned, they can apply to their daily life.”

Discipline

“Its our job to set them back on the right path, not make them think you are exiling them to the rock! One misbehavior should equal one punishment.”

Communication

“Don’t throw the Bible at them and drown them in holy oil cursing Satan and calling the troops in to cleanse the kids room. Seriously…You need to number one, be there for them and help repair the self-esteem. Set some boundaries.”

Say  YES!

“Say what you mean and mean what you say.”

Balance and Request

“Don’t nag your kids about mundane tasks! Pick your battles. Let them experiment in the kitchen etc. and if they screw it up laugh it off together and show them the right way. They will never learn if you are helicopter parenting them.”

Be Your Selfie!

“You were designed in Gods image and He made you beautiful. I think sometimes some people who use make up fail to realize that the make up only looks good because you started with the beautiful foundation to begin with. And I don’t mean foundation as in liquid makeup! I mean your very self. Who you are. That beautiful face that you were blessed with!”

Teri then discusses teens and dating and overall leaving a legacy! If you are a parent of teens or on the verge of parenting teens, this book is the perfect resource for you. It’s raw, it’s real, and it’s not sugar-coated. Love that!
