Blue Cross Complete of Michigan and Detroit Parks & Recreation Hold Free Baby Shower Event for Detroit Community
What: The 4th annual Blue Cross Complete Baby Shower and Health Fair is a special event for new moms, moms-to-be and children to learn about prenatal care, healthy eating, breastfeeding and more. The public is invited to attend and receive valuable resources and take part in presentations including car seat safety and healthy/affordable cooking demonstrations. Lead and dental screenings will also be provided with consent. Free gifts will be distributed to everyone, while supplies last. Prize giveaways for car seats, strollers and gift baskets will take place throughout the event. Organizations presenting this year include, but are not limited to: Black Mothers Breastfeeding Association, Kohl’s Safe 4 Kids, Matrix Human Services Head Start, Maternal Infant Health Program providers and Mott’s Children Hospital. Free transportation services for Blue Cross Complete members is available upon request. RSVP by calling 1-844-280-9127. Walk-ins are welcome.

Why: Proper pre- and postnatal care is essential for moms and moms-to-be. Unfortunately, Michigan is ranked eighth in the nation for the highest number of maternal deaths. Blue Cross Complete is committed to increasing access to resources to help educate parents on how to achieve a healthy pregnancy and birth. This annual event, which attracts more than 300 community members each year, connects parents with health care providers and information to make the transition into parenthood as smooth (and healthy!) as possible.
