6 Easy and Low-Risk Decorating Hacks for Renters

Interior decoration and personalization is something that most renters struggle with. With all the strict rules that accompanies home decorating, most tenants tend to ignore it. They just settle with the existing home décor even though they are not comfortable with it.

The good news is there are plenty of ways to change the looks of your rented homes without breaking landlord rules. Most of them doesn’t require much time, effort and most importantly money to follow along. I listed a few of them below.

Use removable wallpaper.

Easy to install and to remove wallpaper is a tenant’s best friend when it comes to interior decorating. Buy the one that doesn’t leave a mark upon pealing. Look for tutorials online on how to set a wallpaper perfectly to make things easy.

Use command hooks, strips and tapes

Command hooks, hanging strips and tapes can be used as an alternative for drilling holes. If you want to display your arts and memorabilia on your wall, command hooks and strips can be used. Same thing goes if you want to use your wall as an extra storage space for your hats and coats. Instead of drilling screw hooks, command hooks can be used.

Paint your wall the same color with a twist

If the wall paint of your rented home is quite old or a bit bland, consider repainting it with a vibrant one with the same hue as the old one. But first, ask your landlord about it and explain to him/her what you are about to do. Most landlords will say yes into it and some will even thank you for doing it.

Update your lightings

Changing the lighting fixtures around your rented home can instantly give it a brand new look. Consider using dimmer switches especially in the living room and bedroom. Give your kitchen a brighter vibe by using brighter bulbs. Same thing goes with your bathroom.

Replace your curtains

If your rented home comes with curtains, consider replacing it with the ones you are comfortable with. This is one of the most effective ways to redecorate a home’s interior without spending a lot of money. Pro tip: use curtains that complement the current season or weather.

Use carpets and rugs

Don’t you like the existing floor style or design? Consider placing carpets and rugs. Just like curtains, carpets and rugs can instantly give a home’s interior a brand new look in an instant.

Just remember, always ask your landlord’s permission first before doing any of the above given tips and advice.
