If “Friendsmas” felt like a cute millennial trend a few years ago, it’s now a full-blown holiday travel movement, and Las Vegas is one of its biggest beneficiaries.
Group holiday trips to Vegas have surged over the last two years,
driven by rising flight deals, flexible work schedules, and a cultural shift toward experience-focused gifting. And instead of the traditional presents under the tree, many travelers now splurge on VIP airport pickups, group limo rides, curated tours, and luxury nightlife experiences.
According to recent travel industry data, holiday travel intentions among U.S. adults have increased compared with the prior year, with a record share planning winter holiday trips — reflecting strong overall leisure demand that underpins the rise in group travel such as Friendsmas.” Las Vegas, consistently ranked a top destination for December and New Year’s Eve, is seeing that demand firsthand.
“Friendsmas has become one of the most exciting shifts in Vegas tourism,” says JJ Bell, Spokesperson of Presidential Limousine, one of the oldest and most recognized limo rental services in the city.
“A decade ago, most of our December guests were couples celebrating anniversaries or families on vacation. Now, we’re driving friend groups who want one big memory together instead of buying individual gifts.”
Why Friend Groups Are Choosing Vegas for the Holidays
1. Experiences matter more than presents
Younger travelers are trading wrapped gifts for shared adventures. Surveys from Deloitte and Amex show a rise in “experience gifting,” especially among Gen Z and Millennials. In Vegas, this translates to group dinners, limo tours, holiday shows, and nightlife events.
Bell explains:
“People want the story, the photo, the feeling, something they can talk about for years. Vegas delivers that better than most cities, especially during the holidays.”
2. Group travel feels more affordable when costs are shared
A luxury limo ride that might feel too pricey for a couple becomes cost-effective when split among six to twelve friends. NYE rideshare surge pricing also pushes travelers toward flat-rate limo packages
“Every December, we see groups realize a limo is actually cheaper than taking multiple Ubers,” Bell adds.
“And the experience is 10 times better. They step off the plane into a heated, stocked vehicle with a driver who knows the city.”
3. New Vegas attractions are pulling in younger visitors
The Sphere, F1, Super Bowl LVIII, new residencies, and expanded nightlife options have made Vegas “the place to be” for group celebrations.
Holiday events on the Strip, from spectacular light installations to seasonal shows, have added family-friendly and millennial-friendly options that didn’t exist a decade ago.
4. Work flexibility allows travel before Christmas and after New Year’s
Remote and hybrid work have permanently changed travel patterns.
More groups are taking off-peak mid-December trips or extending their stays past January 2, easing cost pressure and boosting demand for weekday limo bookings.
What People Now Spend on Holiday Luxuries in Vegas
Presidential Limo’s team says the biggest spending trends among Friendsmas groups include:
✓ VIP Airport Pickup
Flat-rate limo pickups range widely, but they are consistently booked earlier each holiday season.
“Holiday airport lines are long, and everyone wants to start the trip on a high note,” Bell says.
✓ Group limo tours of holiday lights
Seasonal tours of the Strip, Downtown, and private holiday displays have become top sellers.
✓ Bottle service, immersive shows, and Sphere experiences
Friend groups build entire itineraries around one “wow” moment.
✓ Matching outfits and photo-driven experiences
Bell notes increased requests for photo stops and scenic routes.
“Half the groups want content moments,” he says. “The limo becomes part of the experience, not just transportation.”
Presidential Limo’s team sees demand expanding earlier each year.
Bell says:
“We used to see bookings spike only in the last two weeks of December. Now, people plan Friendsmas trips in October. That early demand helps us prepare the fleet and staff for the busiest time of the year.”
He adds that the biggest mistake groups make is underestimating how fast Vegas sells out during Christmas week and New Year’s Eve.
“Everything books out: hotels, shows, restaurants, transportation. Vegas looks huge, but holiday availability disappears fast.”
What This Means for Vegas Tourism in 2026
Tourism analysts expect Friendsmas to become a permanent fixture of holiday travel, rather than just a temporary post-pandemic trend.
Bell agrees:
“Vegas is built for group celebrations. Friendsmas just fits our DNA. I don’t see this trend slowing down. If anything, it’s going to get bigger as people put more value on shared experiences.”
