Ahead of Father’s Day, a new analysis has found Michigan ranks strongly for classic American Dad culture, from DIY home improvement and lawn care to grilling, family finances and weather-watching.
Using Google Trends search data, shopping behavior, and U.S. Census data, BetMGM Casino created an “American Dad Score” ranking all 50 states based on behaviors traditionally associated with American fatherhood, including grilling, home improvement, lawn care, practical fashion, humor, and family driving habits.
Michigan findings:
• Michigan scored 74.9 out of 100, placing it within the “High Dad Culture” category and above the national average.
• The state’s ranking was driven by strong interest in DIY home improvement, lawn care and grilling, alongside high search activity for dad-coded topics including “gas prices” and “weather radar.”
• Michigan is also home to more than 426,000 father-led households with children under 18, according to U.S. Census data, further contributing to its strong score.
National findings:
• Southern states dominated the rankings overall, with Texas, North Carolina, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee all placing in the highest tier.
• Wyoming ranked as America’s most “dad-coded” state overall, earning a perfect score of 100.
