Recess Club, a Michigan-based women’s outdoor wellness community, is partnering with Henry Ford Health Cancer to host an empowering experience on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Stony Creek Metropark in Shelby Township, Michigan. The event will feature guided movement, mini-wellness experiences, and expert-led discussions on caregiving, cancer prevention, and integrative medicine – blending science and self-care in an outdoor setting.
Recess Club was created by Melissa Coulier during her husband Dave Coulier’s battle with cancer.
What began as a personal search for grounding and connection has grown into a movement encouraging women to step outside, move their bodies, and support one another.
“One day, I took a walk with a friend and instantly felt lighter. That’s when it clicked. We don’t need expensive retreats or grand transformations to begin healing. We need recess again. Small moments throughout the day to step outside. To move our bodies. To laugh. To connect. To breathe. Recess Club is my invitation to reclaim play, wonder, connection, and the simple joys that make life meaningful,” said Melissa Coulier, Founder of Recess Club.
Event highlights include a guided restorative walk, integrative wellness stations, therapy demonstrations, and meaningful discussions featuring Melissa Coulier and Henry Ford Health experts. Oncology nurse navigator Dr. Carmen Stokes will lead a conversation on prevention, screening, and survivorship.
“Current cancer prevention research suggests a strong connection between the mind and body. Improving Vitamin D levels through sun exposure and reducing stress through nature walks and supportive relationships are believed to positively impact the immune system and may even help reduce the risk of developing cancer. Join us for this unique opportunity to fellowship, learn, and experience relaxation and wellness together!” said Dr. Carmen Stokes.
Additional sessions will explore integrative therapies in cancer care, caregiving support, massage therapy, nervous system regulation, and an acupuncture demonstration.
An optional picnic lunch will follow the event. The Recess Club + Henry Ford Cancer Nature Event is free and open to the public, but space is limited.
