Our Trip to #SeaLifeAquarium to Welcome “Carr” the Sea Turtle!

My reviewers Kristie and Ava, received the opportunity of attending SEA LIFE Aquarium in Auburn Hills to welcome “Carr” the sea turtle to his new habitat. Any opinions expressed here are honest and their own.

On Jan. 24th, 2017 we had the opportunity to attend Sea Life Michigan Aquarium for the welcoming of sea turtle “Carr”! Fellow reviewer Ava Litton & her son Colton (13 months) joined us as well. It was a wonderful experience and I am honored to have been there. I was provided with some important information on Carr that I would like to share!

Carr was severely injured in a boat collision that resulted in a deformed carapace and persistent floatation issues, but was nursed to health by the Gumbo Limbo Nature Center in Boca Raton, Florida. He made the journey to Michigan accompanied by a team of aquarists from Sea Life Michigan and Gumbo Limbo Nature Center. Although he is healthy and doing well, Carr is non- releasable, which means he will never be able to survive in the wild.

Carr comes to Sea Life Michigan weighing 85 lbs! This is a 57 lb. difference from his new companion, Benson, the rescued sea turtle who came to the aquarium in 2015. It was so special to watch Carr during his release to his new home! It was very apparent that he was happy to be home.

Benson, the sea turtle who has been at Sea Life since 2015 was very excited to have a new friend! We watched them chase each other in circles, playing, and getting to know one another. After the celebration for Carr we were able to tour the rest of the aquarium. It was absolutely beautiful & so much fun! The kids were able to crawl through tunnels & even touch starfish and other small sea creatures! We loved the hands on experience Sea Life offered! The staff was incredibly kind and excited to educate us. Overall, we all enjoyed ourselves and can’t wait until our next Sea Life experience!
