MILFORD, Mich. (2017) – Groove to the rhythm of local indie artists as Currents Music Festival invades the LaFontaine Family Amphitheater with good vibes and even better music from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, June 10. Presented by Huron Valley State Bank, the LaFontaine Automotive Group,  the Milford Downtown Development Authority, Motor City Party Bus Americus Coney and Grill and River’s Edge Brewing Company, the day-long showcase will bring a blend of jazz, folk, rock and more to the village including award-winning dirty outlaw country band The Orbitsuns and the musical harmony of 10 more unique artists.

This year’s rockin’ lineup will include:

“We love inviting original Michigan bands to perform in Milford and entertain the community and we’re thrilled to have secured this year’s lineup,” said Jennifer Hill, events and communication manager. “These aren’t your average basement bands, either. Several groups have been selected as Detroit Music Award nominees, including Eliza Neals and the Narcotics, the Gasoline Gypises, The Native Howel, Eva Under Fire and the Orbitsuns.”

The name Currents is derived from the LaFontaine Family Amphitheater’s location. The amphitheater’s environmentally-friendly design orients patrons towards the historic Albert Kahn-designed Ford Power House and Pettibone Creek waterfall. Built into the natural landscape of Central Park, the amphitheater fits snugly into the existing topography of the site, incorporating terraced seating for nearly 2,000 people.

“We’ve crafted a new and improved experience for the Currents Music Festival this year,” said Jack Shubitowski, president and CEO of Huron Valley State Bank. “The festival will showcase tons of Michigan talent and provides an opportunity for the community to share an evening of food, friends and music.”

Attendees who work up an appetite will enjoy the tantalizing tastes of local restaurants Blue Grill, Smoke Street BBQ and The Proving Grounds Coffee and Ice Cream, available at food stands in Central Park. New this year, award-winning micro-brewery River’s Edge Brewing Company has teamed up with Wixom-based Drafting Table and New Hudson-based Draught Horse to present a 21-and-up biergarten with a selection of their individual beers and special tappings of collaborative brews.

“The vibe of Currents fits right in with Southside, which is a mix of local art, craft beer and fun, creative shops,” said Ann Barnette, executive director of the Milford Downtown Development Authority. “We’re thrilled to bring it back to the downtown Milford for another year.”

Viewing space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets. No outside alcohol will be permitted in Central Park for the event. For more information, visit the Currents Music Festival Facebook Page  Downtown Milford Facebook page.
