Lucy’s Lab Chapter Books {Book Review}

I received a copy of “Lucy’s Lab: Nuts About Science and Lucy’s Lab: Solids, Liquids, Guess Who’s Got Gas” ($13.99/each value) in exchange for this promotion. Any opinions expressed here are honest and my own.

On Lucy’s first day of second grade, she’s excited to meet her new teacher, Miss Flippo, and find out everything’s she’s going to learn about this year in school. And when Miss Flippo tells the class that they’re going to have their very own science lab, complete with lab coats and goggles, Lucy can’t wait to start exploring.

But one thing is troubling her. The tree that sat outside her first grade classroom all year is gone. Where are the squirrels going to live?

Inspired by her classroom lab, Lucy starts her own research mission to find out what happened to the tree, and then to lobby for the school to plant a new one. With the help of her cousin, Cora, and their new classmates, Lucy discovers that science is everywhere you look, and a lab can be anywhere you look.

Lucys’ Lab is actually a new chapter book series that includes….Nuts About Science (about habitats), Solids, Liquids, Guess Who’s Got Gas (about States of Matter) and another new book coming out February 2018.. The Colossal Fossil Fiasco (about Fossils).  The series is actually very entertaining and educational for new chapter readers including my 7-year old son (geared for ages 7-9; grades 1-4).

The Series I received was hardcover and 96 pages long, which seems long, but large type and pictures along the way give some great visuals for new chapter book readers.  Quick read on my end and well worth read for youngers.

Houts’ writing draws on STEM themes and is aligned with curriculum guidelines to bring a love of science to young readers, inspiring them to start their own labs and explore their world which is right down my son’s alley as he always comes home from school wanting to recreate the science experiments that were performed earlier in the day.

“In Lucy’s Lab, science is everywhere you look, and the world is yours to explore.”

Lucy’s Lab Series can be purchased at Amazon, Barnes & Noble and anywhere children’s books are sold.
