For the first time, no bus transportation for walkers will be allowed on Mackinac Bridge;

Star Line to help by providing new option for walkers to return to starting point

What:   Star Line Mackinac Island Hydro-Jet® Ferry will offer ferry service between Mackinaw City and St. Ignace to provide a convenient option for 2018 Annual Labor Day Bridge Walkers, given Mackinac Bridge will be closed during the Bridge Walk except for emergency vehicles. For the first time, walkers will not have bus transportation to return to their cars once they have walked the entire expanse of the bridge.

Who: Every year, between 25,000 and 60,000 people participate in the Labor Day Bridge Walk.

Why: Star Line Mackinac Island Hydro-Jet® Ferry will offer departures on the hour between Mackinaw City and St. Ignace making it easy to leave a vehicle in either city and walk the entire length of the bridge. Jerry Fetty, CEO of Star Line Mackinac Island Hydro-Jet® Ferry, said, “Star Line is proud to be a part of this 61-year family tradition and to offer transportation back to your car if you want to walk the entire span of the bridge.”

How: This year, participants may start their walk from either end of the Mackinac Bridge beginning at 7:00 a.m. Once participants have completed the Bridge Walk, Star Line Hydro-Jet® Ferry classic boats will run between Mackinaw City and St. Ignace to return walkers to their starting point. Each ferryboat holds 500 people and will run direct between the two cities from 6:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Cost is $20 adults, $10 children 5-12, and kids 4 and under are free. The ferryboats will have light food and beverages for sale.

When:  Labor Day, September 3, 2018 from 6 a.m. – 11 a.m.

 Where:  Star Line Mackinac Island Hydro-Jet® Ferry’s Dock #1 will be used in Mackinaw City and Dock #3 in St. Ignace. Parking at both docks is $10.
