Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital is hosting the 31st annual Walk to Remember on Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018, in honor of Perinatal Loss Month.

The walk includes a trip to the memory garden where parents have the chance to reflect and place mementos on the garden’s Mother Tree. There is a balloon release and parents get a rose. Cider and doughnuts provided; children welcome. Pre-registration by September 21 is recommended in order to include a babies’ name in the program by calling 248-937-4261, or by emailing Colleen Shier, Perinatal Loss Coordinator, at cshier@dmc.org.

“As a community-based hospital, the Walk to Remember is one of our most heart-warming events at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital,” said CEO Karima Bentounsi. “It is incredibly important for our patients and community to know we are there for them in moments like this and that they are not alone.”

Pregnancy should be an exciting and hopeful time of anticipation. However, for families who experience the loss of a baby during pregnancy, delivery, or shortly after, this time can be bewildering and devastating. Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital offers Help, Understanding & Grief Support (HUGS) on every third Thursday of the month.

Katie Rohrhoff, MSN, RN, CPN, at Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital, lost a child in 2009 when she first started coming to the HUGS support group. “It was immensely helpful,” she said. “I made friends that I am still friends with to this day and they helped me get through my next pregnancy which was very stressful and scary going through that again. It’s an amazing group.”

With a mailing list of over 200, HUGS meets each month from 7-9 p.m. in the HUGS meeting room on the main floor of Huron Valley-Sinai Hospital.
