7 Things to Do as Soon as You are Engaged

Getting engaged is one of the most exciting times in your life. You’re about to begin a whole new journey with the person you love and there’s so much to do to prepare for your impending big day. However, getting all that done can seem overwhelming, especially if you don’t know where to start. The following list can help ensure your engagement period is happy and virtually stress-free.

1. Protect Your Ring

Once your partner pops the question, the first thing you should do is protect the ring, which means getting it insured for the full value in case it’s lost, stolen, or damaged. That way, if anything ever happens to it, you’ll be able to easily get a replacement. Not to mention, you’ll be able to pass it down once the time comes.

2. Get a Manicure

Getting a manicure will ensure your nails are in tip-top shape for when you show off your ring finger at family gatherings and, of course, on Facebook. Post a ring selfie on Facebook and Instagram after you get your manicure to show off your ring in style.

3. Send Out Engagement Announcements

To let everyone know you’re happily engaged, make sure to send out an engagement announcement. At the very least, simply change your relationship status on Facebook to “engaged” to let all your friends and family know the big news.

4. Choose a Wedding Date and Send Out Save-the-Dates

Once you’re engaged, you’ll want to quickly decide on your wedding date and venue to ensure the best possible options are available. As such, talk to your fiancé and figure out a date that works best for both families. Then, select a date and send out your save-the-dates as soon as possible. The more notice you provide to guests, the more likely it is they’ll be able to attend your wedding.

5. Start Looking for Your Wedding Dress

This is likely the one thing soon-to-be brides spend the most time doing, so begin searching for your ideal wedding dress as soon as possible. After all, you want to give yourself plenty of time to find one that matches your personality and style, which could take weeks or months to achieve. Indeed, when it comes to planning a wedding, making sure everything is done as quickly and efficiently as possible is the name of the game.

6. Plan Your Engagement Party

Planning a small engagement party at your home or your fiancé’s home (if you don’t live together) is a great way to celebrate your new engagement. Start with the guest list and venue and then move on to party decorations and food.

7. Hire a Wedding Planner or Get a Wedding Planning Book

You’ll want to start planning your wedding as soon as possible, and a wedding planner or wedding planning book can provide ideas and inspiration, as well as help you stay on track with your timeline. Time is of the essence. If your wedding is taking place less than a year from now, you’ll want to invest in the services of a wedding planner to make sure everything goes off without a hitch.

Getting Ready for Your Big Day

By utilizing this checklist, you can more easily get everything you need to be completed in time for your big day. Go over the details with your wedding planner or maid of honor — whoever is helping you plan your wedding — and make sure to double (and even triple) confirm everything under the sun with your vendors, as things can easily slip between the cracks. That way, you can more easily enjoy celebrating your impending nuptials and not worry about anything going awry on your big day.
