Joyful Delicious Vegan: Life Without Heart Disease-Book Review

Vegan?  Thinking about becoming vegan?  If so, Joyful Delicious Vegan provides some great info on the how and whys of being vegan.

Truthfully, living on a farm and raising our own meat for ourselves and others, this concept just amazes me. Sherra Aguirre does an excellent job empowering her readers to adapt to a whole plant-based diet with her own experience as she improved her overall heart health and eliminated symptoms of hypertension. She did this despite a significant family history of heart attack, stroke, and high blood pressure.  All in all, I truly enjoyed this book and plan to reference it!

In her book,

Aguirre provides so many helpful and mindful healthy eating tips.  She touches base regarding how to reverse heart disease, how to navigate eating out, sugar addiction (and the differences in sugar substitutes/sweeteners), healthy shopping, spices, and your sweet tooth, to just name a few.

“Many friends tell stories about making a meal that everyone enjoys, and at the end seeing the surprise on the faces of friends of family when they tell them it was all plant-based.”

One concept that I really took away

was the “Raw Food Advantage” and also more ways to prepare raw or live foods.  Another I enjoyed reading/seeing was the “Plant-Based Sweetener Comparison” chart that shows carbs, glycemic index, type of sugar, and nutritive caloric.

Aguirre also shares in the back of her book tried and true recipes that keep her on track, including Pico De Gallo (which is one of her favorites) and Baked Cornmeal Onion Rings.

Once again, Vegan I am not, BUT I’m always amazed at what I can really learn from those who have educated themselves and changed their lifestyle to become healthier and Aguirre sure shared that in her new book.

Eaters alike will enjoy this healthy,

mindful eating book that has a lot of tips to share for all to take a step back and think about how they can improve their eating habits.
