Life Isn’t Perfect, but It Doesn’t Have To Be

Regardless of how much we can work towards our dreams and ideals, there are always going to be roadblocks along the way and challenges that we might never be able to overcome.

After all, life isn’t supposed to be perfect and it’s the difficulties we encounter that will eventually shape our personality and attitude towards others.

And that’s okay to accept.

Every single day, people are weighed down by a variety of problems such as expectations and anxiety. It can be incredibly stressful, but there are plenty of ways for you to sit back, relax, and accept life as it is.

So in this post, we’re going to talk about some concepts that will help you embrace life for what it is and to stop chasing the idea of a perfect life.

“The time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time”

This is a famous quote that seems to have a number of different sources. But regardless of who said it, it rings true in a number of different situations in life.

Far too many people feel that they need to optimize their time to the fullest. They think they have to spend every waking moment doing something useful and they’re conditioned to think that procrastination is one of the worst things you can do. But that way of thinking is simply wrong.

If you enjoy wasting your time on something then can it really be considered a waste? The idea that procrastination is bad stems from the feeling that you’re wasting time because you could be doing something else.

For example, if a student procrastinates by looking at their phone when they should be studying, then they’re told that they’re wasting their time.

But this isn’t really true. If a student is unable to focus, then trying to push through and study is both a waste of time and can harm their mental state. Interesting, right?

Procrastination in this case is a way to let the mind relax.

It helps them soothe their worries, it lets them focus on something more entertaining, and it helps to refresh their mind so that they’re ready to study later.

This is true for any intense work-related activity. This is exactly why people take breaks when they work. It’s not just because they’re hungry and need a snack, it’s because they need a bit of time to relax and unwind before another intense work session.

So, if you ever find that you beat yourself up over “wasting time”, stop immediately. Time doesn’t have to always be spent doing something productive and you’d be surprised at how important it can be to give yourself the opportunity to just relax and do nothing for a while.

Doing the best with what we’ve been given

There are many things in life that we simply cannot change no matter how hard we try. While it’s unfortunate, some of us can be born with limitations, and others will be faced with physical challenges that prevent them from doing something effectively.

But despite all of these difficulties that you might face, it’s important to do the best with what life has given you. There’s even a famous quote that encompasses this exact way of thinking; “when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade”.

The idea behind this way of thinking is that you always do the best you can regardless of the situation.

This can range from something lighthearted such as making the best meal that you can with the ingredients you have, but it can also be something more serious and life-changing such as learning to cope with a disability and overcoming challenges that restrict what you’re able to do.

There are also times where we might suddenly be faced with a limitation that prevents us from doing something that we previously could. Someone could get into a serious accident that stops them from doing something that they love, or they could face secondary infertility after having their first child.

These situations can be extremely difficult to overcome, but it’s important to maintain your optimism and develop a can-do attitude.

Tackling challenges with the help of others

Life presents us with many different challenges. Sometimes they’ll be personal challenges that you need to overcome, and other times it might be a condition that you have no control over. But whatever you’re faced with, there’s a good chance that having people at your side will make things a lot easier in the long run.

For example, getting your life back on track after some kind of addiction or bad habit can be incredibly difficult without the right support. If you have people at your back, then they can help motivate you, inspire you, and keep you on track.

We all make mistakes now and then, but we shouldn’t be punished to the point that we can no longer live a normal and happy lifestyle. With accepting and loving people at your side, you can overcome any kind of challenge.

However, some people may find it daunting to rely on others for assistance. They might find that it’s difficult to speak to others about their personal problems, or they might not want to bother others with their own issues.

This is completely understandable, but it’s important to overcome this mindset because it can isolate you from your loved ones. By seeking assistance, even if it’s from a support group, you’ll find acceptance and will develop the strength that you need to overcome difficulties in life.

Regardless of what loss, setback, or failure you encounter, it’s essential to maintain an optimistic mindset. With friends and family at your side, you’ll get the support that you need to maintain a positive attitude towards those challenges.

Remember that while life isn’t perfect, you don’t have to face challenges alone and you can rely on others to help you make it through tough times. In the future, you could be the one to offer someone else the same type of support that helped you through a rough period in your life.
