Cooking at home can be a huge mess at times, especially if you’re cooking for the whole family or want to try a unique recipe that has lots of different ingredients and steps. However, there are a couple of great ways to stay organized in the kitchen while you cook.

Reading a recipe? Get a stand for it

It’s common for people to read recipe books, tablets, and smartphones while cooking. However, having it on your kitchen surface can add unnecessary clutter and it could risk getting your book or electronic device dirty. So to prevent this and also make it easier to stay organized while cooking, why not consider getting a stand? A simple book stand or a tablet stand doesn’t cost much and it makes it much easier to read a recipe while you cook.

Storage boxes and cabinets are great, but only if they’re labeled

It’s a good idea to start storing kitchen-related items in a storage box or your kitchen cabinets. However, unless you start labeling them, there’s a good chance that you’re going to forget where you put things. This creates frustrations in the kitchen and there’s a good chance you’ll lose some important items or ingredients. To counteract this, make sure you start labeling all of the boxes, cabinets, and tubs that you use.

Prepare your ingredients beforehand

If you’re cooking from a recipe then you might want to start preparing your ingredients beforehand. Simply read from the list of ingredients and look at any relevant preparation steps. Perform them all before you start cooking and you’ll find that it’s much easier to stay organized while you cook. Having all of your ingredients in separate bowls and plates makes it easy to find what you’re looking for, and preparing ingredients means you won’t need to scramble for a knife to cut something while something else is being fried in a pan.

If you aren’t sure what ingredients you need to prepare for a meal, why not consider looking at some recipes? Whether it’s a pork chops recipe at cookthestory.com or a popular pie recipe passed down in your family, a recipe can really make things easier for you in the kitchen.

Clean things as you go

While you don’t need to clean every piece of kitchenware you use as soon as you’re finished with it, it’s never a bad idea to try and keep your kitchen sink clear by washing things as you go. If you’re waiting for something to heat up or have a few spare moments, then turning on the hot water and giving a few things a clean is a great way to clear up kitchen clutter while cooking/

Don’t be afraid to use more bowls and plates

No matter if you’re cooking lunch or preparing dinner for several guests, there’s a good chance that you’ll have lots of ingredients to prepare and store. If that’s the case, don’t be afraid to use more bowls and plates to hold your ingredients. This helps you stay organized, and it also assists with the preparation process. Since they’re only being used to hold ingredients, they’ll be easy to wash after use too.
