Building credit for maximum results: Free Webinar on March 15 for Michiganders struggling to improve their credit scores.

Event offered by Gesher Human Services during National Credit Education Month.

Gesher Human Services, one of the largest human service agencies in metro Detroit which also provides financial education, will be offering a free webinar on Building Credit for Maximum Results on Fri. Mar. 15 at noon. Michiganders can register right up to the event at the events page at geshermi.org or click here. The Gesher financial education one-day program is being offered during National Credit Education Month which aims to provide information on understanding and repairing credit scores.

“Many people don’t understand the impact of credit scores on their financial well-being, but your credit report is actually your financial power,” explained Gesher Financial Education Manager Laltsha Cunningham. “Your score determines how much you pay for everything, for example it can affect the rates you pay for home and car insurance. And your score can even determine whether you get a job in some places as many employers do a credit check.”

The program on Mar. 15 will discuss:

  • the history of credit reports
  • how to understand your credit report
  • the impact of your credit score
  • industry laws and compliance
  • how to improve a consumer’s profile.

Additional information about further resources will also be provided for those needing more financial assistance. Gesher Human Services also provides one-on-one financial counseling to the community which can be scheduled by calling 248.233.4299 or email financialhelp@geshermi.org.

Cunningham explained that the program is also useful for young adults. “We want to help them build their credit scores the right way,” she said. “Simple things like choosing the best credit card with competitive rates and benefits can really impact their credit score down the line, as can understanding the implications of buying a car, and renting or purchasing a home.”
