Do you have a home computer that the whole family uses? If so, then you have to make sure that you do what you can to protect your tech. There are numerous ways for you to do this, and if you take steps today, you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to give your family a safe browsing experience.

Back-up your PC

The first thing you have to do is make sure that you are backing up your computer regularly. There are numerous ways for you to remove malware and this is great, but it may be that you can’t recover the files you need in the event of losing them. If you have old family photos or if you have very important documents that relate to your job then this can be devastating, to say the least. If you want to do something about this then take the time to look through your PC and back up any files that are of particular interest or use to you. You can then do a general backup for your whole PC, so you have two versions should something happen.

Use Strong Passwords

Another thing you need to do is make sure that you are using strong passwords. Your whole family needs to be doing this, because if you don’t then you could be giving hackers an entry point into your entire system. It doesn’t take a lot for this to happen either. As a family, you should be changing your passwords every six months, and you shouldn’t be writing them down either. If you have kids, then it may be difficult for them to remember tier passwords if you keep hanging them but using a password manager is usually a solid workaround.

Use a VPN

Another thing you need to do is try and use a VPN where you can. Using a VPN is one of the best ways for you to protect yourself and your devices because it allows you to be completely hidden from other people who may be trying to access your PC. If you have a phone, then you should be taking steps to try and protect yourself in that instance too. It may be that you look up how to change ip address on android and that you also add fingerprint ID where you can. By doing this, you will soon find that it is easier than ever for you to protect yourself and your family.

Use a Firewall

If you do not have a firewall for your PC, then this will also work against you. You need to use a firewall as this is the best way for you to block any malicious attacks against your computer. If you want to help yourself when choosing a firewall then paying isn’t always best. Sometimes a free firewall can do a great job of protecting your PC. If you want to help yourself in choosing a firewall then one thing you need to do is look up reviews. You also need to make sure that you are browsing for updates regularly. If you don’t update your firewall regularly then this can leave you and your family open to several attacks, when in reality, all of this can be avoided.

Don’t Download

Although it can be tempting for you to download things online, you do need to stop where you can. The main reason for this is because if you don’t then you will find you end up introducing viruses to your system and all of this can be avoided if you take the time to avoid it in the first place. Another thing you can do is try and avoid using pop-up blockers. If you do use things like this then you will soon find that you end up opening your PC up to even more harm. Things like this are very simple but at the end of the day, they can make a major difference to how secure your PC is. Make sure that your kids are avoiding phishing emails too, as these can also lead to viruses and attacks on your home PC.

So as you can see, it’s very easy for you to safeguard your computer at home from several attacks. If you take steps now then you may be able to save yourself a small fortune moving forward as well, as you won’t have to pay an IT expert to come and take a look at your PC in the event of something happening to it.
