McDonald’s, State Leaders to Celebrate Michigan Apples During Michigan Apple Month
To kick off the month of October, Michigan Apple Month and National Apple Month, McDonald’s of Michigan is proud to host a community celebration in the heart of apple territory: Sparta!
Friday, October 4, at 10:30 AM,
national and state lawmakers, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD), the Michigan Apple Committee and Michigan suppliers will gather at Green Tree Orchards in Sparta to celebrate the longstanding partnership between McDonald’s and Michigan’s apple and farming communities. The event will highlight the historical significance of apple farming in Sparta and its impact on the region as well as McDonald’s connection with farmers and suppliers across the state.
Michigan is the second largest producer of apples in the United State, harvesting about 1.3 billion pounds of apples per year from 17.6 million apple trees covering 38,000 acres on 850 family-run orchards. The McDonald’s system sources about 14 million pounds of apples from Michigan.
