Shed 3 at Eastern Market was buzzing on October 18th as 300 people gathered for the 11th annual Harvest Gala 2024, celebrating Detroit’s food scene and Eastern Market’s role in the community. Presented by the Farm Bureau of Michigan, this year’s gala was all about savoring local flavors, connecting with neighbors, and honoring the legacy of Detroit’s beloved market.

Chef Joseph Cosenza delivered a standout five-course meal,

featuring root vegetable potage, roasted beets, Lake Michigan salmon, braised short ribs, trio of Michigan apples and petit fours, all showcasing the best of Michigan’s seasonal produce. With live music filling the market, guests enjoyed wine, craft cocktails and the unique experience of a Detroit night out at Eastern Market.

“The Harvest Gala is more than a dinner, it’s about the people, the place, and the passion for Detroit,” said Katy Trudeau, president, Eastern Market. “We’re celebrating what Eastern Market stands for—a space where everyone comes together over fresh food, a shared vision for equity and prosperity, and the spirit of the city.”

Earlier this fall, Eastern Market launched the “Authentic Eastern Market” campaign, a $15.5 million fundraising initiative aimed at protecting the market’s legacy while enhancing its economic and cultural impact. The campaign focuses on strengthening the regional food economy, maintaining racial equity with affordable business spaces, preserving the district’s character, and upgrading infrastructure to ensure a sustainable future for the market.

Building on this momentum,

the Harvest Gala introduced the “Dan Carmody Fresh Food Access Fund,” a new initiative honoring Dan Carmody’s 17 years of dedicated service to Eastern Market.

“Eastern Market is an anchor of Detroit’s economy, a platform for local entrepreneurs and a catalyst for regional food systems,” said Cindy Pasky, Eastern Market board chair. “The Dan Carmody Fresh Food Access Fund is an innovative initiative that furthers Eastern Market’s mission to ensure equitable access to healthy food for everyone.”

Proceeds from the gala support Eastern Market Partnership,

a nonprofit committed to creating a marketplace that brings Detroit’s diverse communities together. By fueling local businesses and expanding food access, Eastern Market remains a vibrant part of Detroit’s culture and economy.
