Needless to say, parenting is wild, right? One minute, it’s all giggles and hugs, and the next, it’s spilled juice, lost shoes, and “Why are you crying?!” on repeat. Then you have to calm them done for the more reasonable things such as going to the dentist, getting shots, or, well, anything that a kid deems to be scary. Well, generally speaking, staying calm when everything feels like a whirlwind isn’t easy, but finding ways to get into a calmer state of mind isn’t just helpful, well, it’s survival.

Now, this all sounds so much easier said than done, honestly, that whole “just stay calm” advice sounds like something that would come from a parent who has a nanny, maid, and an assistant, right? Well, sure, that might be true, but you seriously do need to get into a calmer state more often because this can affect your mental health.

But if chaos is non-stop, what can you even do to get calm? Well, here’s a few things you need to know!

Sneak in Some Quiet

Alright, so for starters, it’s no secret that kids are walking, talking noise machines. Silence might feel like a myth, but finding pockets of quiet time, even for a few minutes, can seriously make a world of a difference. Okay, so for starters, you might want to step outside for a few deep breaths, close your eyes for thirty seconds while hiding in the pantry (yes, that counts), or sit in your car for a moment before heading into the house.

It’s not about meditating for hours; it’s about taking tiny breaks that let your mind breathe. These moments might seem small, but they add up, helping you stay more grounded when the next wave of “Mom! Dad!” hits.

Try Natural Remedies for Relaxation

Sometimes, deep breaths and a good playlist aren’t enough. As nice as they are, yeah, they usually aren’t enough, especially when it feels like you’re in the eye of the storm. When life feels extra overwhelming, natural remedies can help take the edge off. Sure, this sounds generic and overdone, but really, it’s not. Honestly, there are so many natural remedies.

For starters, there is meditation, a lot of people will look into herbal tea (like chamomile), some people swear by a light and healthy meal (or the opposite), and then there are the more lesser-known ones such as kanna nasal spray and other kanna products. It’s from the kanna plant and it’s known for giving people a calming effect.

But honestly, it’s up to you to do some trial and error and see what actually works. Overall, adding natural tools like this to your routine can make those high-stress moments feel a little less intense, so you’re better equipped to handle everything life (and your kids) throws at you.

Protect Your Sleep at All Costs

Unfortunately, sleep deprivation and parenting go together like peanut butter and jelly, but nobody functions well running on fumes. You probably know this, but a lack of sleep turns minor inconveniences into major disasters, draining your patience and energy in the process. It’s not a luxury, you literally need it!

Move to Soothe

Exercise might sound like another chore on an already overflowing to-do list, but hear this: it doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective. Movement, even a little, works wonders for clearing a stressed-out mind. Even when you’re cooking, cleaning, or in the shower, just try and do little exercises at the same time as well.
