The Air Zoo Launches a Summer Full of Discovery, Thrills, and High-Flying Fun

KALAMAZOO, MI, June 13, 2025 — Summer at the Air Zoo Aerospace & Science Center is taking off with a dynamic lineup of events and experiences designed to spark curiosity, ignite imagination, and get pulses racing. From hands-on educational adventures to aircraft fly-ins and a brand-new, action-packed exhibit, guests of all ages will find something to explore all season long.

Free Summer STEAM Days

Presented by Zoetis, the Air Zoo’s popular Summer STEAM Days return with three exciting themes. Each day is packed with hands-on activities, demonstrations, and take-home creations:

  • June 21: Engineering STEAM Day

  • July 26: Space Exploration STEAM Day

  • August 16: Aviation STEAM Day

Each event runs from 10am – 2pm and is free to participate. Activities are hosted by the Air Zoo’s Education Team and several local partners.

Discovery Series Events

Presented by Honor Credit Union with media sponsorship from Adams Outdoor Advertising, the Discovery Series invites adults and families to enjoy the Air Zoo in new and exciting ways.

  • Silent Frames: A Live Scored Experience on Saturday, June 28: Iconic Cinema. Live Orchestra. One Night Only. Experience cinema in a whole new (old) way at this live scored experience! Music performed by local Chamber Orchestra ensemble, Silent but Deadly.
  • Adult Space Camp (ages 21 and up) on July 26: An evening of cosmic fun with cocktails, food, music, hands-on science, and after-hours exploration.
  • Top Gun Movie Night on August 23: Watch the classic film surrounded by historic aircraft. Come early for themed activities and unique Air Zoo experiences.

Historic Aircraft Fly-Ins

In partnership with the Michigan Flight Museum’s Air Adventures, guests will have a rare opportunity to purchase rides on historic military aircraft:

  • July 12 and 13: Flights available on the iconic UH-1 Huey helicopter
  • August 16: Experience the legendary C-46 “Hairless Joe”

New Traveling Exhibit: Extreme Sports – Beyond Human Limits – COMING SOON

In just a few short weeks, Air Zoo guests will explore what it takes to push the human body to its peak in Extreme Sports: Beyond Human Limits. This interactive traveling summer exhibit was developed by Science North in partnership with the Ontario Science Centre and explores the science, psychology, and technology behind some of the world’s most daring sports.

From wingsuit flying and ice climbing to surfing and free diving, this exhibit shows how elite athletes harness physical strength, mental focus, and technical skill to achieve the extraordinary. Designed for guests of all ages, the exhibit features hands-on challenges, inspiring stories, and opportunities to learn through play and discovery.
