AnimalZone® Highlights a Dog Hero: Rescue Knows No Borders: July 19 at 8:30 AM on Cox Television’s National Network

Santa Barbara, Calif., July 2025–  Don’t miss AnimalZone this Saturday, July 19 at 8:30 AM on Cox Television’s National Network as AnimalZone joins forces with The Pet Rescue Expert, Larissa Wohl. The heartwarming episode features Evie Banuelos, whose passion for rescuing abandoned dogs has resulted in the saving of thousands of lives in just five short years.

Evie is the founder of Pups Without Borders,

a nonprofit that began during the pandemic when thousands of dogs were abandoned in Mexico. Her small act of kindness at the time – helping a friend transport a few dogs from the Arizona border – quickly blossomed into a life-changing mission. In 2020, she turned her growing passion into a sanctuary in Van Nuys, California, where abandoned dogs from all over, many of them pregnant or ill, receive medical care, love, and the opportunity for a forever home.

“Every shelter and every rescue can use help right now, and we can all work together,” says Banuelos. “The end goal is to save as many lives as possible.”

Larissa also highlights the amazing volunteers of “Doggie Day Out,”

who give rescue dogs a break from the shelter with park playdates, beach runs, and even sofa snuggles in real homes. There’s a 14% higher chance of a dog being adopted when it participates in one of these field trips, and it’s a fulfilling opportunity for volunteers to help dogs in need.
