Uplifting Youth Voice and Community Joy Through the Arts!

DETROIT, Mich. — InsideOut Literary Arts invites the community to gather at Beacon Park on Saturday, September 13, from 2:30 to 7:30 p.m. for Radiant Detroit: A Festival of Arts, Culture, and Wellness. This free event will offer an afternoon of immersive performances, movement, and creative play for all ages.

From poetry to hip hop, drumming to scent-making,

the festival is a joyful tribute to the voices and talents shaping Detroit’s future. InsideOut student poets will take the stage alongside headlining musical act Mahogany Jones, the internationally renowned MC and cultural ambassador. Community organizations from across the city will offer hands-on activities centered on light, sound, and movement, making space for connection, creativity, and wellness.

“For over 30 years, InsideOut has nurtured the voices of Detroit’s young people. Radiant Detroit is our thank you to the community that sustains and inspires us,” said Suma Karaman Rosen, Executive Director of InsideOut Literary Arts. “This is a celebration of joy, imagination, and the radiant power of self-expression.”

“We’re proud to partner with InsideOut Literary Arts to bring Radiant Detroit to Beacon Park,” said Laura Dean, director of parks and public spaces at the Downtown Detroit Partnership. “This beautiful park in the heart of downtown is known for its daily programming, from musical performances and children’s activities to art installations and local markets, making it the perfect backdrop for a festival that uplifts youth voices and celebrates the arts. We’re excited to see Beacon Park come alive with creativity, expression, and joy.”

This event highlights the vibrant community that has supported InsideOut for three decades,

and provides a glimpse into the youth-centered future the organization continues to champion. Festival activities will include performances by InsideOut’s Youth Performance Troupe and student poets from partner schools, as well as a wide range of family-friendly creative experiences:
