2025’s Best Coffee Cities – WalletHub Reports

With National Coffee Day around the corner and Americans consuming around 519 million cups of coffee every day, the personal-finance company WalletHub today released its report on 2025‘s Best Coffee Cities in America, as well as expert commentary.

To determine the best local coffee scenes in America, WalletHub compared the 100 largest cities across 12 key indicators of a strong coffee culture. The data set ranges from coffee shops, coffee houses and cafés per capita to the average price per pack of coffee.

Top 20 Cities for Coffee Lovers
1. Portland, OR 11. Atlanta, GA
2. Orlando, FL 12. Las Vegas, NV
3. Long Beach, CA 13. Los Angeles, CA
4. Miami, FL 14. New Orleans, LA
5. Seattle, WA 15. Denver, CO
6. Tampa, FL 16. Sacramento, CA
7. San Francisco, CA 17. Honolulu, HI
8. Austin, TX 18. San Diego, CA
9. Oakland, CA 19. Boston, MA
10. Pittsburgh, PA 20. Cincinnati, OH

Best vs. Worst

  • Buffalo, New York, has the lowest average price for a pack of coffee, which is 1.6 times lower than in Honolulu, Hawaii, the city with the highest.
  • Fremont, California, has the highest average annual spending on coffee per household, which is 3.7 times higher than in Detroit, the city with the lowest. 
  • Gilbert, Arizona, has the highest share of households that own a single-cup/pod-brewing coffee maker, which is 1.6 times higher than in Newark, New Jersey, the city with the lowest.
  • Portland, Oregon, has the most coffee and tea manufacturers (per square root of population), which is 21.2 times more than in Fresno, California, the city with the fewest.
