UNITED KINGDOM ‘A Christmas Tale: What Harriet and Henrietta Mouse Saw in the Stable’ is a children’s story filled with wonder, warmth and faith. The book opens with a short poem and includes a foreword by Dr Hazel L Carr, setting a gentle, welcoming tone for young readers as it retells the Nativity through the eyes of two little mice and their barnyard companions. With bright illustrations and simple storytelling, Janet McBride has created a book that invites children into the stable on Christmas night to witness the miracle of Jesus’ birth.

In the story,

Mary and Joseph are welcomed into the stable when there is no room at the inn, and the animals help make them comfortable. Soon, the baby Jesus is born, and Harriet and Henrietta watch as angels proclaim the news to the shepherds in the fields. Guided by a star, wise men arrive with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh, filling the humble stable with reverence and joy. The book captures these scenes with charm and tenderness, reminding children why the Nativity continues to inspire awe.

Synopsis:

The book was written to let the children know how Jesus came into the world and how he was born in a stable. The little animals in the story makes it more interesting and enjoyable for the children to read.

“I wanted to write a story that would make children feel as though they were inside the stable on the first Christmas night,” says Janet McBride.

Continuing, “The characters of Harriet and Henrietta Mouse bring a sense of fun and curiosity, while the story itself carries the awe of Jesus’ birth. Children respond to animals, rhyme and pictures, and this book brings all three together. My hope is that it gives families a way to share the joy of the Nativity with young readers in a way that feels both simple and easy.”

With a five-star rating from a teacher who read it to their nursery class, an accessible and vibrant style and message of joy, ‘A Christmas Tale’ offers parents, grandparents and teachers a way to introduce children to the Nativity in a book sure to become a seasonal favourite.
