National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan’s Fall Focus Event on Nov. 10 Explores the Erasure of Women in the U.S. Today

Event features Frédérique Irwin, President and CEO of the National Women’s History Museum!

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. (Oct.2025) – National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan (NCJW|MI), a grassroots organization of volunteers and advocates committed to social justice, is hosting Fall Focus 25: The Erasure of Women, A Call to Action on Mon. Nov. 10 from 7-9 p.m. at Adat Shalom Synagogue (29901 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills). Frédérique Irwin, who is President and CEO of the National Women’s History Museum, which leads efforts to reshape how women’s stories are told in America, will be the keynote speaker. The event is being held to acknowledge that women’s accomplishments have frequently been omitted from history and continue to be so even now. The museum recently launched a campaign called She is not a footnote. And neither are you. to address the underrepresentation of women in history and inspire the next generation of leaders. The aim is to put women’s stories at the forefront of people’s minds and inspire women and young girls to be bold and ambitious. To register and purchase tickets, which cost $18 (students are free with school ID), call or 248.355.3300 ext. 0 or go to ncjwmi.org. No walk-ins to the event.

“The erasure of women, both in the past and today, has a direct and clear consequence for all of us. The consequence of not telling women’s history and stories shows up in the 100+ year gap that the US faces in the persistent underrepresentation of women across all sectors,” said Irwin. “Telling women’s history is more than about telling a more inclusive history, it’s about ensuring that our future has all the best and brightest minds at the table – any table, addressing the opportunities and solving the problems ahead of us.”

Co-chair of Fall Focus, Irma Glaser,

said it was important for Michiganders to understand the present pushback on women’s efforts for accomplishment, while acknowledging so many past women’s achievements. “Frédérique Irwin will expose us to the alarming impact on the future of women’s rights, something we should all be concerned about, and provide us with an opportunity to discuss possible solutions and the next steps we can take,” she said.

At the event, Jeannie Weiner, a former NCJW|MI board member, current NCJW|MI Archives Chair, and a community leader, will be presented with the NCJW|MI Advocacy Award. Weiner was a dedicated advocate for Soviet Jews in the 1980s, becoming the Chairman of the Soviet Jewry Committee in Detroit. She was President of the Jewish Community Council (later known as JCRC), from 1991-1994. Weiner has been on the boards of Jewish Family Service, the Anti-Defamation League and Hillel of Metro Detroit and was a founding member of the Arab Jewish Friends organization.  She is currently on the board of governors of Jewish Federation of Detroit, an advisory member of Women’s Philanthropy, and a trustee with Jewish Women’s Foundation. Weiner is the immediate past president of Jewish Historical Society of Michigan where she works to preserve the history of Michigan’s Jewish communities and describes herself as an “ambassador” for Detroit and SE Michigan.

“Everyone involved with NCJW advocates in some way or other and some members really are brilliant activists for so many important causes, so this award is truly an honor,” said Weiner.
