Toys are amazing. They vary in size, scale, and manipulation styles. Toys can be manual, automated, or something in between. No matter the type or style of toy, one thing is certain – toys are a lot of fun. If you are looking for inspiration on what types of toys to keep you and your kids entertained, please continue reading.
Be creative with Legos.
Legos are time-tested little plastic bricks of endless creativity. They teach patience while sometimes testing patience, but they are almost addictive to anyone who has ever had a set.
Legos offer hands-on play and creativity for everyone, from children and teenagers to adults. They offer a way to innovate or follow directions depending on what you choose to build. You can see the latest LEGO sets for inspiration, select branded sets that bring your favorite movie franchises to life, or choose Creator sets that encourage you to build one set, take it apart, and build one or two more sets, all from the same set of Legos.
If you would like, you can purchase bricks without instruction guides for free play. This way, your only guide is your imagination. Build houses, a menagerie of zoo animals, or anything else you can think of. When you are done, display the creations on a shelf until you want to play with them again or take them down and build something new. The options are truly endless.
Bring on the puzzles.
Puzzles are great for most ages. There are a variety of puzzles that are geared toward younger children that include fewer pieces in larger sizes. And puzzle makers offer great options that older kids, teens, and adults will enjoy putting together.
Look for puzzles with pictures of your favorite TV shows or movies, sporting events, activities, cities, or pets. Some particularly challenging puzzles have color gradients that slowly change from light to dark and make it more difficult to complete. This, however, is part of the fun.
When you are done with the puzzle, consider framing it or displaying it in an unusual way, so you can continue enjoying it long after the build is over.
Try a monthly subscription box.
If you have not yet tried a monthly subscription box geared toward kids, you might be missing out. They are now available in boxes or kits that include everything from science experiments and baking guides to crafting projects and planting projects.
Many of these subscription boxes arrive monthly, while others arrive every other month, or on a schedule of your choosing. Your kids will begin to look forward to them and eagerly await their arrival. It is a lot of fun for them to explore something different and learn something new every time a box lands on their doorstep.
Video games are always a hit.
Any list that includes kids and entertainment should always include video games. The sheer volume of video games available today can be overwhelming. However, if your kids are of a certain age, they have probably already been exposed to video games and surely have at least a few favorites.
Look for video games that have a collaborative component and are outside the realm of the shoot ‘em up genre. The best way for your kids to play video games is for you to sit down and play with them. They will truly appreciate your interest in their favorite activity. Ask them to teach you how to play. You might be amazed at how much fun you can have while bonding over video games.
It is important for parents to always set up parental and safety controls on all video gaming devices, including smartphones, handheld devices, gaming consoles, and tablets. Ideally, you can change the settings to your preferences before they begin playing, but, if you come to the realization that there is a need for these settings to be activated even after your kids have started playing, regardless of their ages, it is important to take action for continued safety. After all, you are the adult in the room, and you are in charge.
Board games are for everyone.
Board games are a great way for kids and adults to spend time together. The sheer multitude of board games is amazing today. There are indie-created games that veer into irreverent, yet hilarious territory, and then there are the classics, such as Monopoly and Risk. You will have a lot of laughs when playing games, such as Scattergories or charades, and enjoy seeing everyone’s competitive sides come out.
Find some new games and pick up the old favorites. Instead of putting them away in the basement or a dark closet, set them out in the open to encourage play. Make it even better by hosting a game night with family friends or having a game night just with your immediate family. Pop some popcorn, pull out the rest of the snacks, and let the games begin!
Play outdoor games for the win.

Getting outside and into the fresh air and sunshine is already a win. But when you add great outdoor games, it gets even better. Look for easy-to-set-up games, such as badminton or volleyball; unlock the trampoline and see how high everyone can jump (safely, of course), or set up a couple of soccer nets, and let the kids get some energy out.
Other outdoor games that everyone enjoys include classics like croquet, backyard mini golf, lawn bowling, safe versions of lawn darts, bean bag toss, ring toss, and silly challenge games. Separate your family members or your kids and their friends into teams. Perform challenges and see which teams come out victorious.

Playing games should never stop just because you reach a certain age. In fact, gameplay is a wonderful tradition to continue, no matter how old you are. Whether you want to buy a set of Legos just for you and spend an afternoon building a rocket ship brick by brick, or you are ready to put a puzzle together with your kids every night after homework is finished, playing games together is something you should always strive to do.
