When you want to be able to nail having a family and a professional life, it’s really important that you approach it in the right way. If you have been struggling to find the right routine and rhythm for you, you’ve come to the right place. Here are five ideas to support you in balancing your home life and career.

1. Set Priorities

First of all, you may find that identifying your priorities and setting them in place very strongly really helps. There’s a lot of pressure on women to be able to have both a career and a family, yet making that work in practice can be quite intricate to navigate. The way that you’re going to do that is by understanding what’s most important to you and having a list that identifies the hierarchy of each element. Then you can make sure that you are focusing on the right things.

2. Bring in Help

You may then want to take a look at any help that you can bring in. Being able to do it all can seem to be quite a myth. After all, there are only so many hours in the day, meaning that you’re going to need help in different areas. It could be hiring childcare or a nanny, bringing in cleaning services from someone like Sparkly Maid, or even hiring an assistant to support you professionally. Remember, you don’t have to do this on your own. Having the right support around you here is key.

3. Create a Schedule

At the same time, being organized and knowing where you are at all times can be really useful. When you have a lot on your plate, it can be easy to forget about the little things you need to do. But when everything is scheduled in, or you have notes to remind you what is going on when, it’s easier to stay afloat and make sure everything gets done.

4. Drop the Guilt

If you feel any guilt about prioritizing certain areas of your life over others, it’s time to drop it. When you are with your family, you need to be fully present and enjoy that time rather than worrying about work. If you’re dedicating some time to work in your day, it’s time to focus on that rather than feeling guilty about not being there for your children. After all, guilt can bring on unnecessary stress.

5. Forget the Idea of ‘Balance.’

At the same time, you need to forget about the idea of having a balance. When it comes to women enjoying their personal lives and building a career, we often see the pressure to have it all figured out and balance the two. Yet having that equal split isn’t really all that realistic. Instead, you need to focus on toing and froing between them both, meshing them together in a way that works best for you. It may look completely different to anyone else you know, and that’s okay. It’s all about you accepting what works for you, what feels right, and going with your gut.
