Michigan’s Highest-Rated Work Industries of 2025, According to Employees

  • Mining & metals has been the highest-rated industry in Michigan in 2025, with an average rating of 4.20 out of five, according to employees on Glassdoor.
  • Gambling & betting ranks second statewide, averaging an overall rating of 4.10.
  • Other high-ranking industries among employees include biotechnology, software development, and information technology support services.

Mining & metals is Michigan‘s highest-rated employment industry of 2025, according to employees.

The work management experts at Asana analyzed data on Glassdoor for over 130,000 companies in 124 different industries across America in 2025. An average overall rating was found for each industry with over 100 companies on the platform including each rating across six other categories: career opportunities, compensation and benefits, culture and values, diversity and inclusion, senior management, and work/life balance. Researchers ranked each industry based on the highest average overall rating to determine the highest-rated by employees in Michigan.

Mining & metals is the highest-rated industry in Michigan. Employees have given the industry an average overall rating of 4.20, while work/life balance is its strongest category, with a score of 4.28.

Gambling & betting takes the second spot among Michigan‘s highest-rated industries. Boasting an overall rating of 4.10, workers in gambling & betting statewide have some of the best work environments. The category with the highest average rating is diversity and inclusion at 4.43, closely followed by senior management (4.23).

Biotechnology ranks third overall, averaging 4.00 out of five. Of the six categories, work/life balance is positioned as the industry’s best benefit (4.43).

Software development follows in fourth place. With an overall rating of 3.94, the industry is rated highly for its focus on work/life balance (4.02).

Information technology support services round out the five highest-rated industries in Michigan, with an average overall rating of 3.88 out of five from employees. Career opportunities is among the best benefits for employees, with a strong rating of 3.68.

A spokesperson from Asana said, “While Michigan’s highest-rated industries remain similar to national trends, future changes in company policies and initiatives will likely shape which industries are highest-rated by employees.

“Tech and tech-focused industries, which feature in the list of the highest-rated, both nationally and in Michigan, are rated highly for work-life balance. Meanwhile, those working in staffing and recruitment rate the industry’s attitude towards diversity and inclusion more than any other.

“Work/life balance is one of the highest-rated subcategories in many of the top industries, indicating a shift in workplace priorities for both employees and employers. In fact, of the 104 industries analyzed nationwide, both the highest and lowest rated recognize work/life balance as its top benefit.”
