An inspiring Michigan mama story…
Owen is a curious 5-year-old from the Royal Oak area who has always been drawn to the outdoors. His love for nature started early. When he was just a week or two old, he was fussy inside one day until he was taken outside. The moment he looked up at a big tree in the yard, he stopped crying completely and quietly took it all in. From that moment on, it was clear he was going to be an outdoorsy kid.
Owen would be outside any chance he gets, rain or shine, in the freezing cold or the hottest days of summer. He loves planting and gardening, helping with yard work, and even going around the neighborhood offering to shovel snow. He started with toy tools, carrying around a leaf blower and a pretend weed whacker, and now proudly uses the real versions to help out.
Along with his love for the outdoors, Owen has developed a strong interest in animals. He enjoys learning about them and can already explain facts like which animals use echolocation and how it works.
Whether he is camping, swimming, or visiting the beaches in Florida, Owen feels most at home outside, exploring and learning about the world around him.
Owen is currently competing in Colossal’s national Jr. Ranger competition, a nationwide contest that raises funds and awareness for the National Wildlife Federation and supports conservation and wildlife efforts. The competition is community-driven, with participants advancing through rounds based on votes and fundraising support. Owen is currently in the group round and is hoping to make it to the finals.
This experience has been a meaningful way to encourage his curiosity and passion for nature while supporting a larger mission to protect wildlife and inspire families to Be Out There.
