Millennial Moms are the Most Mentally Drained and Most Restful of Any Generation of Moms
Millennial moms are the most resentful of any mom generation. That’s according to the “2026 Hierarchy of Mom Needs,” index, in time for Mother’s Day.

Priya Rajendran is a former PayPal engineer and the CEO/co-founder of It’s a Family Thing (IAFT), an AI-powered family app that distributes household tasks so mom isn’t stuck managing the app AND the home.

Her new survey of 2,000 American moms* reveals exactly what moms say they really need – and how resentful they feel.

GENERATIONAL DIFFERENCES:

  • Millennial moms are the most mentally drained (49%) and most resentful (19%) of any generation, at almost 3 times the level of Boomers with younger kids.
  • Moms with kids under 19 lose almost 20 full work days a year just reminding their family of things they already asked for.
  • Millennial and Gen X moms both rank personal time among their biggest needs, whereas Boomers rank it low.

THE 2026 HIERARCHY OF MOM NEEDS

(What moms with kids under 19 say would reduce their day-to-day mental load)

#2. More help from other family members (40%)

#3. Not having to remind others about tasks or responsibilities (37%)

#4. Better communication within their family (33%)
