Filmed For IMAX®
Dune: Part Three in IMAX brings audiences a bold and unforgettable cinematic experience on the world’s most immersive screen and places audiences at the center of one of this year’s most anticipated films.
Designed from the ground up for IMAX, Dune was, in director Denis Villeneuve’s own words, “dreamed, designed and shot” for the format, making IMAX the definitive way to experience the film as he intended. Just like he did for Dune: Part One and Dune: Part Two, Director Denis Villeneuve worked closely with IMAX throughout the entire production process, conducting camera tests and reviews at IMAX’s headquarters, and optimizing the film’s visual presentation to create a cinematic experience designed specifically for IMAX.
For the first time in the trilogy, Denis Villeneuve and Academy Award®-winning cinematographer Linus Sandgren shot part of the film with IMAX Film Cameras, the highest-resolution cameras in the world. It will be proudly presented in IMAX 70mm Film, the largest format ever used in motion pictures.
Dune: Part Three is the first in the franchise to be shot using a combination of IMAX-certified digital cameras and IMAX Film Cameras. The IMAX Film Cameras deliver nearly 10x the resolution of conventional 35mm film and 3x the resolution of standard, 5-perf 65mm film cameras, creating an unmatched level of detail and immersion.
Part of the film was also shot with IMAX’s new Film Camera, the IMAX Keighley Film Camera. Developed in close collaboration with renowned filmmakers and cinematographers, this new camera is named “The Keighley” in honor of IMAX’s late Chief Quality Officer David Keighley and his wife, Patricia, both pioneers of the IMAX 70mm format. The new camera delivers spectacular image quality while incorporating updated functionality.
Dune: Part Three features 71 minutes of IMAX’s exclusive 1.90:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio. With the image filling the giant IMAX screen from top to bottom, moviegoers in IMAX theatres will be fully immersed in the action. In select IMAX with Laser and IMAX 70mm Film locations, these sequences will be presented in IMAX’s towering 1.43:1 Expanded Aspect Ratio, delivering the largest image area in the world.
It also features a dedicated sound mix optimized specifically for IMAX theatres. With a custom sound system designed by acousticians and the largest speakers in the industry, every beat amplifies the film’s unmatched scale, turning it into a fully immersive and engaging experience.
