National Gyro Day is on September 1, and Detroit’s historic Greektown has plenty of options for anyone looking to celebrate with the signature Greek dish.

Here are five Greektown spots to grab an authentic gyro in celebration of National Gyro Day:

  1. Spitiko – The Greek Original Gyro Plate features classic gyro meat served with French fries or rice for $18.
  2. Mati – Guests can choose between a lamb or chicken gyro for $19, with gyro also featured as part of the restaurant’s Mixed Grill Platter.
  3. Pegasus Taverna – The longtime Greektown restaurant serves its Gyros with ground lamb sliced from the rotisserie alongside rice or fries for $17. Guests can also opt for Chicken Gyros, featuring marinated and spiced chicken served on pita bread for $16.
  4. Three Legged Goat – Located in the heart of Greektown, they offer a traditional Gyro with a choice of grilled chicken or gyro meat served in a pita with tomatoes, onions and house-made tzatziki for $16.
  5. Golden Fleece Restaurant – Greektown’s longest-running restaurant serves both Gyros and chicken Gyros with tomatoes, onions, sauce and pita bread, plus a choice of rice or fries, for $19.
