$300,000 anniversary initiative honors more than three decades of philanthropy and community partnerships in Metro Detroit.

Troy, MI – Somerset Collection is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a year-long giving campaign that will contribute a total of $300,000 to 10 nonprofit organizations making an impact throughout Metro Detroit.

Beginning September and continuing through summer 2027,

Somerset Collection will support 10 organizations each with a $30,000 donation, to honor longtime charitable partners and organizations new to Somerset Collection’s giving. In addition to the monetary contributions, Somerset Collection will provide mission-driven donations and experiences tailored to each organization, from needed supplies for youth and families to services that support professional development.

The campaign commemorates 30 years since the opening of Somerset North and the iconic skywalk in 1996, bringing together Somerset North and South to create the Somerset Collection experience guests know today and establish the destination as “Downtown Michigan.”

“For 30 years, our guests, families and partners have made Somerset Collection part of their traditions, and this anniversary is an opportunity for us to celebrate by giving back to the community that has given us so much,” said Nathan Forbes, managing partner, The Forbes Company. “Philanthropy has always been at the center of The Forbes Company’s mission, and we are honored to recognize organizations doing extraordinary work throughout Metro Detroit.”

The organizations selected for Somerset Collection’s 30th Anniversary Giving Campaign through the end of 2026 include:

  • The Children’s Foundation: Somerset Collection will support The Coney, a fundraising initiative building an endowment for youth arts in Detroit. The Detroit Shoppe will also serve as The Coney’s exclusive retail partner during its Sept. 25–26 weekend, with 100% of proceeds from The Coney merchandise benefiting The Children’s Foundation.
  • Brilliant Detroit: The organization transforms vacant houses into neighborhood hubs
where families can access education, health and family-support programming. Somerset
Collection will also provide needed supplies to support one of Brilliant Detroit’s
    neighborhood hubs.
  • Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries: A longtime Somerset Collection partner, Detroit
Rescue Mission Ministries serves Detroiters experiencing homelessness and substance
use challenges and is one of Metro Detroit’s largest housing and treatment providers.
Somerset Collection will complement its contribution with donations supporting children and families during the holiday season.
  • SAY Detroit: A longtime charitable partner, SAY Detroit provides pathways to success for Detroiters in need through direct support and community partnerships. Somerset Collection will support the organization’s annual December Radiothon and donate professional attire, footwear, accessories and more for those it serves. Longstanding support has also included donated retail space for Brown Bag Popcorn, where 100% of proceeds benefit SAY Detroit.

The remaining anniversary giving initiatives will be announced in the coming months as Somerset Collection continues its year-long celebration.

The campaign builds on a longstanding tradition of philanthropy at Somerset Collection and The Forbes Company. The donations will be stewarded through The Detroit Shoppe, Somerset Collection’s nonprofit retail and cultural destination showcasing the people, places and products that represent Detroit.

Originally launched as a holiday pop-up in 2010,

The Detroit Shoppe was created to celebrate the city’s culture, creativity and resilience while providing meaningful support to local nonprofits. Since opening, it has raised more than $5 million for more than 200 nonprofit organizations.

The 30th Anniversary Giving Campaign is Somerset Collection’s way of thanking the community that has helped shape its first three decades and reflects the values that have guided the destination since its earliest days: creating exceptional experiences, fostering meaningful partnerships and investing in the future of Metro Detroit.
