Mackinac Island Tops Michigan’s Most Popular Attractions Online

Travel experts at luggage storage platform Stasher looked at 665 US attractions to see which get the most attention online. They used English Wikipedia page views from September 2025 to August 2026 and TikTok and Instagram hashtag post totals collected in September 2026.

Key findings:

• Mackinac Island leads with an online popularity score of 95.1/100, ahead of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore (84.9/100) and Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore (72.3/100).

• Both national lakeshores earn 4.8/5 on Tripadvisor, matching the ratings of the Detroit Institute of Arts and The Henry Ford.

• Five of the six attractions studied earn Tripadvisor ratings of at least 4.7/5. Detroit Zoo, which ranks fourth for online popularity, is rated 4.3/5.

• The Detroit Institute of Arts and The Henry Ford complete the ranking in fifth and sixth, with online popularity scores of 68.1/100 and 65.1/100.

MICHIGAN’S MOST POPULAR ATTRACTIONS ONLINE

Mackinac Island ranks highest among the Michigan attractions studied across all three online measures. It places 29th in the US with 313,261 Wikipedia pageviews, alongside 30th for TikTok hashtag posts and 42nd for Instagram hashtag posts.
