#TheBestofMe {Movie Review}

I was given the opportunity to screen the movie Best of Me in exchange for this review.  All opinions expressed here are honest and my own.

What is The Best of Me about?

Based on the bestselling novel by acclaimed author Nicholas Sparks, The Best of Me tells the story of Dawson and Amanda, two former high school sweethearts who find themselves reunited after 20 years apart, when they return to their small town for the funeral of the beloved friend.  Their bittersweet reunion reignites the love they’ve never forgotten, but soon they discover the forces that drove them apart twenty years ago live on, posing even more serious threats today. Spanning decades, this epic love story captures the enduring power of our first true love, and the wrenching choices we face when confronted with elusive second chances. (RELATIVITY MEDIA) This film is rated PG-13.

I went to screen The Best of Me, solo.  It was definitely strange haha, but a chance to review a movie I was convinced could just potentially be a “chick flick.”  While in some ways the movie could be described as that, it has a little something for everyone: Romance, comedy, action, etc.  The story line is in fact romantic and the movie keeps you engaged and in suspense throughout to see how things are going to end up.  However, there are a few things I would like to address about the film.

I was very surprised that this movie was rated PG-13.  In all honesty is should have been rated R. Why?

  • There were two sex scenes.  Okay sure, not all out nudity, but still very uncomfortable.  I would not want my 13-year-old seeing that!
  • There was a lot of coarse language and even an F bomb.
  • A scene where an old man gets beat up.  Very hard to watch.
  • Two murders.
  • A marital affair.

Life in general for many people are rough and tough and see things on a daily basis.  It’s reality for many and I understand that many people could probably relate with this film making it very easy to watch.

As far as the “marital affair” goes, many would say it’s no biggie because “Amanda’s spouse” doesn’t pay attention to her, blah, blah, blah.  She’s still married when her and Dawson decide to pick up where they left off.  This is just my opinion of course and just made me uncomfortable.  I’m a Christian and a goody-goody and proud of it! 😉  I’m entitled to my opinions right?

The acting overall in the film was fantastic and believable.  James Marsden always does an excellent job in whatever role he plays.

The Best of Me is now open in theatres.

Are you excited to see The Best of Me?  Based on some of my info, would you take your 13-year-old to see it or do you think it’s best for older teens and adults?
