Sugru Mouldable Glue……Glue that Turns into Rubber! {Product Review}

I received a Sugru Home Hacks Made Easy – The Starter Kit ($15.00 value) in exchange for this promotion. Any opinions expressed here are honest and my own.

Sugru is the world’s first mouldable glue that turns into rubber.

Their story!

It all started with an idea and a small team of product designers and material scientists in London. Their dream was to make fixing, modifying and making things easy and fun for anyone, and Sugru is their solution.

Their patented silicone technology is unique. Out of the pack, Sugru feels like play-dough, and it’s that easy to use too. It bonds to almost any other material and cures just by exposing it to air. Its durable cured properties mean it’ll stay strong and securely bonded anywhere from the freezer to a steamy hot shower, from the home to the great outdoors.

My review!

Sugru Mouldable Glue looked kinda cool when I first got it!  Included in my Starter Kit was:

  • 5 single use packs of Sugru in Classic Red, Snow White, Pitch Black, Mossy Green and Silver Grey
  • a practical storage tin
  • a booklet chock full of project ideas and how-to guides

At first I didn’t know WHAT to use it on or for what either, but the how-to guide gave me a ton of ideas to get started.  I had a couple of ideas in mind how I wanted to try it out.  When I opened the glue, it reminded me of the old “Fun Tak” I used in college to hang stuff on my dorm walls so it wouldn’t ruin the walls.  Sugru is quite mouldable…and somewhat stinky to work with (but I’m also a bloodhound when it comes to smells).  But amazing, once the project was finished…there isn’t any stink to it any more.

The first project I worked on was a rubber hook to hang a washcloth in my kitchen sink area.  My 15-year daughter actually formed it for me and it turned our pretty good.  It has been durable and has been hanging for about 10 days.  It has worked pretty good in the kitchen and for what I need it for.  I probably should have made it a little bigger to withstand a wet cloth as I noticed it has sagged a little since installation, but all in all it is doing what I needed it for.

Second project….I have a sweater that’s zipper pull broke off and I already had a humorous looking paper clip hooked on there.   Once again, my daughter moulded around the paperclip to make the paperclip invisible and look like I have an attractive zipper pull.  Awesome hack!

*All projects have a recommended full 24 hours to set before being used.

All in all as mentioned,  the how-to guide was excellent and gave me many ideas to try and in truth, also by just quickly thinking outside of the box, this mouldable glue can go far.   It was a fun experience using the glue and look forward to seeing what other projects we can come up with the rest of the glue in our house.
