Healthy Hoops Basketball Event Ypsilanti 10/22

Saturday, Oct. 22 from 11am to 3pm at the Ypsilanti High School gymnasium (2095 Packard Road, Ypsilanti, MI 48197), Blue Cross Complete of Michigan will be hosting Healthy Hoops, a community-based, chronic disease intervention program that reflects AmeriHealth Caritas’ integrated model of care.

The event helps kids and families who live with asthma and other chronic conditions realize that they can remain active while managing their health. It will pair hands-on asthma education, screenings and a basketball clinic. The basketball clinic will be led by Jermaine Jackson, former Detroit Pistons player, and current Pistons players, Tobias Harris and Boban Marjanovic. Attendees will receive spirometry lung function tests, asthma control tests, spacer and inhaler demonstrations, and asthma action plan consultations. In addition, there will be healthy cooking demonstrations and food samples from Chef Paul Penney and performance by Sterlen Barr, health educator and motivational rap artist.
