Looking After Yourself Post Surgery
Surgery is something that you can usually spring back from straight away, and many of us will definitely experience that at some point in our life. Knowing what to do when you’ve had surgery is important, so here are some tips for looking after yourself post-surgery.
Book Your Time Off Work
It’s important to book some time off work, rather than trying to get yourself back to your normal day to day working routine. With most surgeries, going back to work the next day won’t be possible, so you want to book off some time ahead of the surgery.
You can check in with the doctor or surgeon to check just how long you might need off in order to recover fully. You don’t want to take off time and then find that you’ve not booked enough of it. When you’re booking that time off, make sure it’s annual leave and not simply working from home remotely. You can’t guarantee that you’ll be in the state to do any work after any form of surgery and your employer shouldn’t expect that of you either.
Get Plenty Of Rest & Follow Doctor’s Orders
Rest is an important element to the surgery because your body might have gone through an intense and exhausting experience, whether it be an hour or several hours. You can see these videos as they explain nose surgery and how much can go into this for such a small part of the body.
When you get back to your home, make sure you have the setup ready for you to either rest in bed or to rest on the sofa. You want to be comfortable at all times, and for the most part, you don’t want to be moving around. It might be worth organizing someone to look after you while you’re at home, whether it’s a partner, family member, or friend.
Keep The Basics Of A Routine
Keeping a normal routine is important, but it’s not something you’re going to be able to do fully. However, in order to keep your mental state in check, it’s good to have some elements of a routine so that you feel like you’re still you and your lifestyle is somewhat the same.
It could be having a friend over for dinner but having them do the cooking while you rest up. Making sure you get out of bed and perhaps getting changed into a fresh pair of pajamas can help too.
Query Any Concerns Immediately
Hopefully, you don’t have too many problems post-surgery, but there are side effects and issues that can occur in which you might be worried about. If that’s the case, then you want to get in touch with your doctor or surgeon immediately. Don’t let these concerns continue to go unnoticed or dismissed. It might be something fairly serious that urgently needs attention.
Surgery is a trauma for the body and so making sure you look after yourself properly will ensure a speedy recovery.
