Ensuring Your Newborn Is As Comfortable As Possible
Having a baby is one of the most wonderful things in the world. That little life now depends on you to take care of him or her through everything they do. When they are awake, when they are asleep, it is completely up to you to ensure that they have everything they need to be safe and comfortable. It’s a big task, but one that is well worth it!
Let’s look at some of the things that you can do to ensure that your newborn is as comfortable as possible. If you want to find out more about this topic, keep reading!
The Right Clothes
The first thing that you should be doing is ensuring that you have the right clothes for your baby. They grow fast and you don’t know exactly how big they are going to be when you give birth to them so it can be a challenge to find clothes that are going to fit.
The best advice here is to simply purchase various clothes in various sizes, and then you will be able to try them on when you bring your baby home. Obviously, the ones that are too small you won’t be able to use, but you can return these as long as you keep the receipt. As for the clothes that are too big, they will grow into those pretty quickly, so don’t worry about a thing.
You are bound to have at least some clothes that fit your baby, and once you figure out what size they are, you can go out and buy some more clothes. Just keep in mind that they are going to grow, and it will feel like they have only been in these clothes for five minutes before they need the next size up.
You should also ensure that you have the correct bedding for your newborn. Now, there isn’t much that you need for this to be possible. You need the right Moses basket, bassinet, or crib for them to sleep in and you need to look at crib sheets to buy, but other than this, nothing should really be in there with them. This is just in case they pull it onto them during the night and something tragic happens. If you think they’re going to be cold through the night, the best thing that you can do is swaddle them and ensure you have the baby monitor near so that you can take it off if you hear them crying through the night.
It’s important that you check out all the rules of bedding when it comes to newborns because you don’t want to do anything wrong. This is especially important if you are a first time parent because things can seem overwhelming, and you don’t want to miss out on vital information.
If you want your newborn to be comfortable, you should try to implement a feeding schedule as soon as possible. Once you get them into a routine, the easier your life is going to be, and the better for them too. Babies like routine. They like knowing that they are supposed to sleep, and when they are supposed to eat, etc. Seeing as your child is a newborn, they don’t do much other than eat, sleep, and yes poop! So, get them into a routine for the first two months, and everything should be smoother than if you didn’t. It’s worth a shot!
Diaper Change Routine
Obviously, you just need to change your baby’s diaper when necessary, but that’s not what we mean. Your child needs to get used to what happens when it’s time to change their diaper, or you could end up listening to screaming every single time. You don’t want that!
So, get the habit going of removing the diaper, cleaning them up, putting cream on them when necessary, and then putting on a fresh diaper. If you can, try to change them in the same place when you’re in the home or at least on a changing mat so that they can get used to the feeling.
If you’re not home, then this isn’t going to be possible, but at least the child knows what to expect and hopefully won’t spend the entire time screaming at you. Some kids don’t like having their diapers changed, but if you talk to them the entire time, then this might soothe them. The voice of the parents are very soothing to the baby, so talk them through what you are doing, and hopefully, this will work for you!
In Your Arms
As well as this, your baby is likely going to be most comfortable when they are in your arms. Your smell and your voice are extremely comforting to your baby, so it’s one of the places that they are going to feel most safe in the entire world.
Obviously, you can’t have them there all the time as you don’t want to create a super clingy baby! But, you can hold them there when they are crying, or when they just need a hug, etc. It’s a form of bonding, and it really works well if you are trying to get on the same page as your baby.
As previously mentioned, the comfort and familiarity of the parent is important to a baby, especially seeing as so much else in the world is new. If they need to be held, then hold them until they are at ease.
Hopefully, this has been helpful to you and you now understand some of the ways that you can ensure your newborn is as comfortable as possible. Take this advice, and you should have peace of mind that your child is comfortable with you in no time, making them happy as can be. Wishing you all the luck in the world and hope your new little family is happy and healthy!
