Protecting your eyesight is a critical move that you must make. They say the eyes are the windows to the soul, and making sure your vision is in tip-top shape is essential for quality of life.
The best way to do this is to work on keeping your vision safe in the first place. Here’s how you can keep your eyes crystal clear no matter what your age.
Control Your Sugar Levels
While chomping on that next stick of candy when watching a movie may feed your sweet tooth, it may not be such a good idea if you want to keep your vision clear. Elevated blood sugar levels can cause damage to the retina in your eye if you’re not careful.
This type of eye problem can just hit you right out of the blue. You won’t even know it’s happening until you start experiencing floaters across your eye or find that you’re not seeing too far into the darkness at night.
The bottom line is that as much as possible you need to try to reduce the number of sweets that you eat.
Eat Right
Carrots are the superstar food when it comes to good eyesight. Dark green and leafy vegetables are also a front runner when it comes to protecting your vision as well.
Try to eat as many of these as possible. While these types of vegetables may not be getting a standing ovation, putting them on your plate is well worth it. Try to eat at least some of them daily.
Consider drinking them instead of eating them. Green juice can be delicious and can hit the spot when it comes to quenching your thirst especially when they are icy.
Get as many recipes online as you can, as this will diversify your veggie consumption.
Exercise When You Can
You must exercise whenever you can and get your blood flowing. Another thing you should consider is that exercise is proven to help reduce the chances of developing diseases such as high blood pressure, heart disease, and even diabetes.
All of these are forerunners to cataracts developing in your eye. You don’t have to fall victim to this as long as you keep a healthy exercise schedule.
It doesn’t have to be anything too serious. Just something that keeps your blood flowing for twenty minutes at a time, this is usually good enough.
This means that you can try walking and jogging, you don’t have to get an expensive gym membership and be intimidated by gym rats at least not when you’re just getting started.
Try Less Screen Time
Screen time can damage your eyes. If you’re like most people you’re probably glued to your cell phone. It probably feels as if it’s an extension of yourself. However, it could be damaging to your eyes.
Spending hours at a time scrolling through social media is not just bad for your productivity or mental health but it is also bad for your eyes as well. You are doing even more damage if you work at a computer all day as well.
Chances are you will start experiencing a phenomenon known as dry eyes very quickly. Take breaks to rest your eyes.
Ward Off the Sun
Sunglasses are not just for looking cool although they do add a certain iconic look to your style.
However, the biggest reason why you need to wear sunglasses is that they protect your eyes when you are out in the sun. UVA and UVB rays can be brutal on the eyes.
Check to see the percentage blockage you can get before you buy your sunglasses. Once you have made sure that your sunglasses can protect your eyes, you can then consider how fashionable and cool they are.
Get Your Eye Examined
You must get your eyes examined at least once per year. Many people treat the eye doctor in the same way they treat a dentist they shy away from it.
However, you’ll find that going to the eye doctor is a lot more pleasant than going to the dentist so don’t be afraid to find out the condition of your eyes especially if you have a family history of cataracts or glaucoma.
Protect Your Eyes
You have to be sure that you pay close attention to how you treat your eyes. Care for them as you would care for any other part of your body.
Just as you would smooth lotion all over your body to keep your skin feeling supple, you should also consider giving your eyes the same tender treatment as well. This way you can keep them healthy for a long time.
