JARC Hosts Free Carnival in Metro Detroit for Individuals with Developmental Disabilities and Sensory Sensitivities and their Caregivers – Aug 20
JARC Hosts Free Carnival in Metro Detroit for Individuals with
Developmental Disabilities and Sensory Sensitivities
and their Caregivers.
What:
JARC, a metro Detroit based nonprofit that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, is hosting a free accessible and sensory-friendly carnival for metro Detroiters with developmental disabilities and sensory sensitivities and their caregivers; tickets are available for their families to purchase. Approximately 400 people are expected to gather in the parking lot at Adat Shalom Synagogue (29901 Middlebelt Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48334) to enjoy carnival rides and games, music, and snacks.
Food will be available for purchase. The event is consciously created to ensure that individuals with developmental disabilities are comfortable at an event that would normally be overcrowded and overstimulating. Quiet, sensory-friendly spaces will be available. For more information on JARC, click here; for more information on the Carnival click here.
Why:
As part of JARC’s ongoing work to provide new opportunities, activities and experiences for persons with developmental disabilities, this event was developed as the answer to how persons with developmental disabilities and/or sensory sensitivities can see and experience a carnival in a space that is more supportive to their individual needs.
The calmer environment, along with a setting where others have similar needs and sensitivities, helps to make this carnival a possibility for all.
Who:
Everyone within JARC’s large community of the people they serve as well as all metro Detroit individuals with developmental disabilities and/or sensory sensitivities are invited to this event, free-of-charge. Tickets are required for all attendees; tickets are available for purchase by family members.
Tickets are $20 per individual or $50 per family and the carnival is not open to the greater public. The special event is generously sponsored by the Ellen Labes Family as part of The Ellen Labes Festival Series, recognizing her long-time devotion to the people JARC serves.
When:
Sunday Aug. 20, 2023, from Noon – 4 p.m.
Where:
Adat Shalom Synagogue
29901 Middlebelt Rd, Farmington Hills, MI 48334
