When it comes to childproofing your home, the task can seem rather daunting – especially for first-time parents. From sharp corners to electrical outlets – it can feel as if there is a danger around every corner.

Some hazards might not be as obvious, but all are equally important to address. Keeping certain items out of reach can significantly reduce the risk of accidents.

Not sure where to begin? Then keep on reading. Below we are going to take a look at five things in your home that you must keep out of sight.

1. Medications and CBD Products

Both over the counter and prescription medications are a leading cause of child poisoning. Often, they can be mistaken for candy as they come in bright bottles and packaging.

The same can be said for CBD products, including edibles and gummies. Always store these in a safe and secure place and educate your older children on how to correctly identify the packaging.

For your own safety, it’s also critical that you use a reputable dispensary when purchasing these items. Check out NYC Bud – Cannabis Delivery Long Island, NY, and sign up for their newsletter to see their range of high-quality products.

2. Cleaning Supplies

Many cleaning agents contain harmful chemicals that can be dangerous if ingested or when they come into contact with skin. Even those with labels “natural” or “non-toxic” often pose risks to small children.

Like medication, the colorful packaging is intriguing and can be mistaken for something safe to play with. You must store them in high cabinets and use safety locks until they are old enough to understand the dangers.

3. Small Batteries

Small, button-like batteries can be found in numerous household items including remote controls, toys and even greeting cards that play music. They are particularly hazardous, as they cause internal burns when ingested.

Be sure that all batteries are kept out of reach or properly secured. Additionally, checking devices regularly to ensure that they do not come loose will help reduce anxiety.

4. Small Magnetic Toys

Like button batteries, small magnetic toys can also be incredibly dangerous for your children. If swallowed, magnets can attract to each other within the body, causing blockages and other issues.

Supervise your little ones carefully during playtime, and never leave them with these toys unattended in your house or apartment. You must also be vigilant about inspecting things for wear and tear.

5. Sharp Objects

Finally, knives, scissors, tools, and other sharp objects can cause devastating injuries if handled improperly. These items should be placed in drawers or cabinets with locks and safety latches to prevent access.

When using them, be mindful of where you set them down, especially when cooking. All it takes is a few seconds for little hands to grab them!

Final Words

Keeping your child safe is an ongoing process that evolves with their age and developmental stages. Alongside securing the physical environment, you must educate yourself on first aid and always keep emergency numbers handy.
