Extra Life Detroit empowers gamers to raise funds for their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital.

Motor City Comic Con (MC3), Michigan’s largest and longest running comic book and pop culture convention since 1989, is pleased to announce a collaborative partnership with Extra Life Detroit during this May’s Convention. Extra Life is a peer-to-peer fundraising program that unites thousands of gamers around the world to play games in support of their local Children’s Miracle Network Hospital. Extra Life Detroit volunteers will be on-site with games, activities, and giveaways at the Suburban Collection Showplace during Motor City Comic Con, which will be taking place May 17 – May 19, 2024.

Extra Life Detroit,

which supports pediatric needs at Corewell Health Children’s (the new name for Beaumont Children’s), will be giving guests of all ages the opportunity to play, donate, and win some amazing prizes throughout the weekend at Motor City Comic Con.

Extra Life Detroit will be on-site providing fun activations all weekend long inside and outside of The Kids Den, located on the second level of the convention center. On Saturday and Sunday kids and their families will be encouraged to play oversized yard games like giant Connect 4, Unicorn Bowling, Giant Jenga, and Corn Hole. On Saturday afternoon, guests can visit the Extra Life table for a chance to meet and take photos with some special characters.

The Kids Den,

which is open throughout the entire convention is a great place for families to hang out, have fun, and even enjoy a little quit time. The Kids Den features kid and family-friendly programming and activities, including crafts, story time, and kids cosplay contests. All Kids Den activations are free of charge.

Throughout the weekend, in addition to the scheduled appearances and activations in the Kids Den, guests will be able to take part in several fundraising initiatives for Extra Life Detroit that will support Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals. Prizes and giveaways will be awarded to guests who donate and play certain games like a giant dice roll to see if you win a small, medium, or large prize or “rock, paper, scissors” where winning against a volunteer or special guest can get you entered to win a grand prize gaming console.

All donations collected throughout the weekend

will go towards providing life-saving services and vital pediatric equipment that will be utilized for Pediatric Oncology at local Corewell Health Children’s facilities in Southeast Michigan.

“We are so happy to have Extra Life Detroit involved in The Motor City Comic Con. It’s the perfect opportunity for them to provide additional programing, and excite not only gamers but attendees, as they interact with families throughout the weekend,” stated Beth Burland, Show Manager for Motor City Comic Con.

“Extra Life Detroit is proud to partner with Motor City Comic Con in May to raise awareness for this incredible program. Our community of gamers and the pop culture fandom at MC3 can come together to have fun and change kid’s health in Southeast Michigan. Last year, our gamers raised over $100,000 to support child life services at Corewell Health Children’s. We’re excited to see how this partnership can help us raise even more to support our impact area for 2024, pediatric oncology,” stated Hannah Goodman, Program Director for Extra Life Detroit.
