Council Re|Sale Store in Berkley to Hold Special Construction and 90 percent Off Sales This Holiday Season as Store Begins Building Work to Expand.

Council Re|Sale (3297 W. 12 Mile Road, Berkley, MI 48072) one of the oldest resale shops in metro Detroit, will be holding many special sales this holiday season and into the new year as construction gets underway for the store’s expansion. The store will be taking over the adjacent store currently occupied by Time Travelers, a comic book, cards, toys and video games store. The new space will house the home décor department, the men’s department and an expanded donation area.

Council Re|Sale is operated by National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan (NCJW|MI)

and is known for carrying high-end clothing, including designer wear, jewelry, shoes and household items all donated by the community. The store is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary, so on the 9th, 19th and 29th of each month there will also be 90 percent off sales on specific items and this will continue through June 2025. Details of the construction and anniversary sales will be found on the store’s website at councilresale.net. For images of the store and merchandise click here.

“As construction gets underway at our store, we are excited to offer outstanding items of clothing and accessories, plus home décor, at almost give-away prices,” explained NCJW|MI President Amy Zeskind. “We encourage the community to stop by and enjoy shopping for themselves and their loved ones without having to be stressed at the prices. And if you aren’t sure what to choose for your friends and family this holiday season we have gift certificates too.” Zeskind said that the continued success of the store was due to the outstanding generosity of donors, plus the many volunteers who spent countless hours working at the store.

Proceeds raised at Council Re|Sale, which was originally opened in 1934 in Detroit, go towards the many community impact projects and social advocacy work which NCJW|MI, a 501(c)(3) organization, run to benefit local families. Recent projects of the 133-year-old organization include the annual Back 2 School Store which provides free clothing and school supplies to 900 Detroit children in need each year, and another program which provides backpacks and school supplies to 1000 homeless children through Oakland Schools Homeless Student Service plus 500 children in need identified through Jewish Family Service.

Other initiatives include literacy outreach, fleece blankets for children in hospitals and in foster care, and Kosher Meals on Wheels.

The organization is also at the forefront of voter advocacy and women’s reproductive rights, holding programs and educational initiatives to promote these issues.

Council Re|Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday; donations of clothing (not books or children’s clothing currently) are accepted Monday through Saturday, excluding Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on Council Re|Sale go to www.councilresale.net; for more information on National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan go to www.ncjwmi.org
