If you love music then you will be providing yourself many benefits for your mental health. You may not know this but the saying ‘music is good for the soul’ is very true. If you are unaware of the benefits that music can give you, take a look at the article below.

Improved Mood

Have you ever been in a mood and listened to music? We bet it made you feel a lot better, that’s because music can improve your mood and boost your spirits. When you listen to music your body gets busy reducing the hormone dopamine which makes you feel a lot happier. If you have a stressful life, then having music to hand can be really helpful. Quite a few people will take earphones to work so they can focus their attention on the tasks at hand.

Increased Sleep Quality

Due to music relaxing you and calming your mood, it also helps you sleep at night. If you regularly have trouble sleeping, then put on some calming sounds to help you drift right off. Some people find that sounds of nature or water playing through the night will keep them sleeping all night long. As an adult you should be aiming for around six to eight hours of sleep each night.

Stimulates Cognitive Abilities

Music is truly amazing; it can actually stimulate all areas of your brain meaning you can excel in all avenues. You may notice that your memory improves when you listen to songs and take in the lyrics. Ever wondered how you can remember a great song word for word from 30 years ago? That’s because you have trained your brain to remember that it is a very clever organ. If you are trying to study for an exam or test of some kind, then it can help to listen to music while you do this. It has shown listening to music, on low, helps your brain retain information and learn better.

Encourages Creativity

When you engage with music you are stimulating the right side of your brain, which is responsible for creativity. Music does in fact help you stay on a creative path and musicians are always very creative. They can create music and songs just by spending some time alone thinking about it. This is because music brings out strong emotions and reactions which in turn can create a show stopping song. If you want to be a songwriter, don’t rush into it, take your time and feel the music or even write the lyrics first.

Social Interaction

Lastly, if you enjoy going out with friends then how about you go to a music venue where you can share your love of various bands and genres. Your friends might not all be into the same music but if you try and broaden your horizons then you never know who you will find. If you have children, then spending time with them listening to music or going to concerts can provide lifelong memories. If your child has shown an interest in learning an instrument, then you could always look into band instrument rentals before splashing the cash on their own.

Hopefully this proves why you should introduce more music into your life, the pros outweigh the cons each and every time. Sharing music with others is also a great thing to do, sharing is caring after all.
