Grand Opening Plus Spring Fashion Event for Expanded Council Re|Sale Store in Berkley, Mar. 9
Council Re|Sale Store in Berkley to Hold Grand Opening for Store Expansion and Spring Showcase Fashion Event on March 9!
Council Re|Sale (3297, 12 Mile Road, Berkley, MI 48072) one of the oldest resale shops in metro Detroit, will be celebrating its expansion with a Grand Opening and Spring Showcase fashion event on Sunday, March 9. The store has added an additional 4,400 square feet, plus a basement, by taking over the adjacent building, and this expansion will now house the home décor department, the men’s department and a larger donation area.
The Grand Opening will begin with a ribbon cutting at noon,
with local dignitaries including Berkley Mayor Bridget Dean, Berkley Chamber of Commerce President Tim Murad and Interim Executive Director of Berkley Downtown Development Authority Jennifer Finney. There will be door prizes, including a $90 gift card to Council Re|Sale, giveaways from local businesses and much more. After the opening shoppers will be able to explore the store’s spring merchandise roll out at the Spring Showcase shopping event which will run until 4:30 p.m.
In addition, anyone who donates to the store between Feb. 10 and Mar. 1 will be entered in a drawing for gift cards to be announced at the Grand Opening; donors do not need to be present to win. Council Re|Sale is operated by National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan (NCJW|MI) and is known for carrying high-end clothing, including designer wear, jewelry, shoes and household items all donated by the community. The store is currently celebrating its 90th anniversary, so on the 9th, 19th and 29th of each month there will also be 90 percent off sales on specific items and this will continue through May 2025. - Tues. Mar. 4: 90 percent off the entire store excluding jewelry and home décor
- Wed. Mar. 5: 90 percent off sale continues
- Thurs. Mar.6 – Sat. Mar. 8: STORE CLOSED in preparation for Spring Showcase
“We are beyond proud of our incredible accomplishment to have a resale store that has been continuously opened for 90 years” said NCJW|MI President Amy Zeskind. “Now that we have expanded, we will have more space to sell even more items, and those extra proceeds will benefit local families through our important community service work.”
Zeskind explained that prior to the expansion it had always been a struggle to get items onto the sales floor because donations exceeded display space. “We are continuously amazed by the outstanding generosity of our donors and, of course, the dozens of volunteers and our staff who do so much to make the store an ongoing success,” she added.
Proceeds raised at Council Re|Sale,
which was originally opened in 1934 in Detroit, go towards the many community impact projects and social advocacy work which NCJW|MI, a 501(c)(3) organization, run to benefit local families. Recent projects of the 134-year-old organization include the annual Back 2 School Store which provides free clothing and school supplies to 900 Detroit children in need each year, and another program which provides backpacks and school supplies to 1000 homeless children through Oakland Schools Student Education Services plus 500 children in need identified through Jewish Family Service. Other initiatives include literacy outreach, fleece blankets for children in hospitals and in foster care, and Kosher Meals on Wheels. The organization is also at the forefront of voter advocacy and women’s reproductive rights, holding programs and educational initiatives to promote these issues.
Council Re|Sale hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday; donations of clothing (not books or children’s clothing currently) are accepted Monday through Saturday, excluding Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information on Council Re|Sale go to www.councilresale.net; for more information on National Council of Jewish Women, Michigan go to www.ncjwmi.org
