An Attack on One Homeschooled Family is an Assault on all Homeschoolers, Declares Dr. Alex McFarland

Illinois proposed homeschooling registration bill is ‘straight out of a socialist playbook,’ says McFarland

A new proposed bill in Indiana is causing an uproar from Republicans and Democrats alike regarding its underhanded methods of state homeschooling. The Homeschool Act, also known as HB2827, would require homeschooling parents to fill out a “homeschool declaration form” that would essentially register their children in their nearest public school district, altogether defeating the purpose of homeschooling. The children of parents who don’t fill out the form are considered “truant, with penalties applying.”

“If this bill is passed, Illinois state government would require homeschooling parents to register their children in their local public school, a move aimed at tracking and potentially prosecuting those who don’t comply. This isn’t just bureaucracy — it’s a deliberate step toward controlling families, straight out of a socialist playbook,” says youth, culture and religion expert Dr. Alex McFarlandMcFarland is intimately familiar with the homeschooling community and the freedoms it offers, having spoken recently at the Christian Home Educators of Wisconsin conference on March 21.

“This proposed bill would force homeschool administrators and programs to adhere to state education requirements, which goes against the very essence of homeschooling in the first place! Parents decide to homeschool their children to get them away from the brainwashing and indoctrination in public schools. Forcing parents to register their children and dictating what they teach goes directly against the freedoms this nation was founded on,” concludes McFarland.
